Description
Song written and recorded and mixed in 24 hours, in a hotel room in Basingstoke (I wrote the lyrics on the train into London).
Used my iphone apple headphones as a microphone.

and even worse...
... mixed totally on headphones! I wrote the lyric going into London yesterday at 11am, started work at 8.30pm on chords and stuff and finished 10.30 am today.... an hour and a half ago.
I will do a proper version sometime!
The piano riff is done on the garageband app.
I tried not to disturb the people in the next room, hence the vocal is quite restrained.

Way to adapt to your equipment at hand Steve. Like a musical coyote... :)
cool song. You have knack for knowing when and how to pick things up, when to introduce the beat and busy up the bass. I really dig the anthemic drums here.
Vox and lyrics are typically great.
The addition of subtle synth and keys all help to bring this home.

Worth coming out...

...of semi-retirement and on to MJs for this one Steve. Great imagery in your lyrics, with a subtle but strong tune. Was at the McQueen exhibition in the Met a few weeks ago (stunning), so nice to hear a reference to his work - it's deft touches like that in your words that always take things up a notch so the listener can 'see' what your saying.

Hope you are well. Lyrics came pretty quickly on this, lots of different stuff (Jennifer comes from lloyd Cole's 'Jennifer She Said' via Jennifer Connoly; my wife has a lovely McQueen dress. Listening back, the mix is muddy, and instrumental break too short, but nice to just get this done and out there.

that you created this under those circumstances Steve but as evident here, when inspiration comes, limits often help us see more clearly.

That's what come across with SUMMER OF LOVE. The startling clarity and specificity to your lyrics and controlled musical pallet work beautifully together.

Never heard of McQeen dress - looked it up - Alexander McQueen - wow more clarity.

this is it. i'm always amazed at the kinds of tunes you do from tin sheds while diesel generators bang under the water purification rig or whatever. floating over the mess, that's what you do. very cool tune. love the bass line in the chorus. also really like the 'all day i wore your scent' line.

Weird, I usually agonise over lyrics for weeks, and I think this is one of the best things I've ever written. That whole second verse is cliche and truth.... we've all had relationships where at the start you just, well, shag at every available opportunity.

Really impressed with what you created in 24 hours. Trains are great place for writing lyrics, staring out of the window whilst the world flies by and thoughts swirl round your head. Garbage strike summer
This is my favourite MJ song in ages. Beautiful, haunting and so well produced. No need to revisit this, it's perfect as it is. 24 hours from concept to post? (I did the same with "This Healing Skin" it's a challenge but the results are worth it.) Particularly love the lyrics and your delivery. Superb.

Great vocals and lyrics. This is a well crafted tune. I believe spontaneity produces the best music. When you dwell and obsess over all the parts and mix to get it perfect it ends up flat with out feeling. This has feel.

to have done this in 24 hours is simply amazing! I really love this song from the Bowie like performance, to the Dylan undertone of the writing, to the "leave us wanting more" ending. It is a wonderful reminder of this amazing technological time we live in... thank you Steve.. a download for sure.

I'd never have guessed how quickly this was done! My only quibble is with that certain word--I know I tend to be old school, but from a hearing perspective, it's such a harsh-sounding word that it usually stops everything dead in it's tracks. Otherwise, a small suggestion and otherwise, easy to take on a piece this good--thanks for sharing!

One of those songs....
...like a good Hemingway story, in which there's a whole lot in the song that isn't in the song...You have this sense of whole unspoken bits in the background and in the shadows....

You're doing nothing to stop comparisons to Bowie, Steve, but at least all comparisons are going to be positive, and are going to be comparisons to GOOD Bowie.... I love what YOU do with your songs, but the question does hang in the air at times: what would happen if Bowie ever heard your songs?

What else? Well, I still love your voice. And I'm impressed as all get out that you did this so quickly, on a MacBook Pro and maybe another device or two, on trains and in hotel room... Pretty darned neat....
