Description
Building on the work of jgurner, SmokeyVW, davisamerica, MarkHolbrook, here is my version of the Pass It On challenge song.

Ok, as the song came to me it had a piano part that overlapped too much with the guitar, so I replaced it completely. I got a bunch of solo guitar parts, which I tastefully (ha) faded in and out. There was one choir part, so I added another.

I played some recorder parts: first 3 tenors, then 3 altos, then a soprano solo.

Ah yes, I played with the vocals a little.

It has
a much fuller and well rounded sound at this point ...I keep fliiting in between the original and the developments....

i should wait
i wanted to listen to each variant in the order they were created. but i couldn't wait...

this is great - the pizzicato recorders give it a feeling of wonderment - wow, nice! the whole effect is light and delicate

thanks

i still plan to listen through the series in order and will likely comment again in that context later

What I hear
is a showcase for a dynamic vocal. Joe sounds like an Angel nestled in a protective atmosphere of sound that never overcomes but supports him. You are one amazing musician, Vic. Thanks.

Wow - how I screwed up your
perfectly excellent mix. Really - this is great. What was I thinking? The recorders sound beautiful here and your edits and additions throughout are really tastefully handled.

I wondered...
How you were going to work some recorder in there. It's wonderful. And how cool is what you did with the vocals!!!! That was fun! (I really can sing as high as you had them at one point... On a good day, that is.) So much going on in the background throughout.

Glad you took part in the challenge. I't so much fun listening to how the song has changed so far!

I lied ....
and it is Mark's fault ..... he let slip your demo CD was available ... and ... sigh ... I took a sneak peek last week. Victor this is such a beauty and to think you did it so quickly. I saw your hand at mixing/inspiration in the Producer's Challenge and you are so darn talented. Melodyne never sounded better ... Wow..Wow ...Wow... downloaded indeed.

Impressive! The voice pitch sounds great. Is that the freebe plugin you posted on the board about?

Freebie
I'm afraid not. That's Melodyne, which sets you back quite a few pennies. But it's worth it, even if you don't apply it quite as drastically as here.

The upper register parts open up the mix. The changes in the melody work pretty well for my ears and I'd bet that Joe has enough range to pull it off for real.

To be honest, I haven't listened to the tracks from a point of comparing sound quality. I used a reverb that's nothing special, but I mastered with the PSP VintageWarmer which is like magic sauce: everything sounds more exciting when you sprinkle it over your mix.

You did an excellent job retaining much of the previous textures added by the previous collaborators. But I think this arrangement is a bit more focussed. And the recorders add an excellent new texture and melodic content. The recorder solo at 2:56 is particularly nice!

solo
There was such an obvious gap in the arrangement, I'm surprised that all these guitar slingers did insert their own solo there. But hey, you don't have to invite me twice!
