Description
I've been listening to a lot of Bruce Springsteen lately, and to a lot of Gaslight Anthem. I guess I'd dedicate this to Clarence Clemons if I believed it to be worthy. Whether that is the case or not, I've no idea. Anyways, feedback would be appreciated! Cheers.

Lyrics
City Elegy

You said there’s nothing here to renovate,
Those evening skies crack like old paint,
The buildings reel in leaden faint,
Yeah, craft me pasts to venerate or drown.

And I believe my dreams are young,
That I am my own native tongue,
My measure weighed in oxygen,
The spears that will my Macedon aground.

You watched the way the city wept,
Its contours cradling your contempt,
Its prosody shuffling, unkempt,
Astride your darkness as you slept, grew old.

And one night every bus broke down,
You swore the streets reared from the ground,
That all the wires had come unwound –
Your panoplies were homeward bound, or sold.

And I hated you for leaving with the cold.

Very cool work indeed
The guitar is intricate yet full and clean. Very cool. For me the goals seemed a bit rushed and perhaps thats due to the "pace" of the background guitar. But this still kept me listening.

Liked the guitar intro
...then the slightly percussive janglyness jarred a little ....I'm with MH on this ....it is perhaps a "cultur/Age" thang lol, nice vibe on the harp and the lyrics/vox crystal clear as was the mix and overall production....

I like it. A lot. Inspired lyrics. Plenty of imaginery and neuron oil.
The bare guitar, the harp, the breathless singing remotely reminds me to certain famous folk singer. But that's because of my uneducated music range. I guess I'll have to check out Clarence Clemons.

Prosody
and panoplies...very clever. I liked it, totally without comparison to anything else. I suppose it could be a bit slower paced to make it more melancholy. Great sounds. Thanks.

Love the things you do with words B. E. N.
Great vocals and harp - not sure about the guitar - a little too undefined perhaps (reverb? chorus? some fx or another). But it might be a generation thing. I've never listened to the bands/players mentioned above, but I'd love to hear you collab this with some players who could give it more of a developed feel. Having said that, I really like the song, and I think you have a special sort of talent as far as writing goes.
Keep em coming!

Great potential in this tune Ben, the harp, vocal, lyrics are really good its stellar songwriting. For me though the guitar lacks a little finesse (I think thats the word I'm after!), its all a little strum as fast and hard as possible, but having said that good song!

I like the guitar intro, been working on your playing lately. There is vivid imagery in the lyric. Not so sure about "prosody" and "panoplies" though. I think the groove works here but some percussion would help it to gel.

I'm always impressed by your lyrics and I'm really digging the harmonica in this one!

"And I hated you for leaving with the cold."

Now that's a powerful line!

You have
a great load of talent and the way you play and sing is really good..... I love the way you play that harmonica; really. You have a way with words too.... though i would have liked it just a tad slower and with a less abrupt ending.... but i must say i enjoyed listening, regards M

Love it
That guitar intro is just great. Then the harmonica comes in and brings things up a level. You have a good voice and it suits this style well. Its all kept bare enough to keep the feeling which i love.

I haven't been playing music for too long. I've dabbled with the guitar for years, but it was only late in 2009 when I started writing my own stuff, and I've loved it ever since. I had always been inventing riffs or short melodies on the guitar, but ... [see more]
