there are certain things i need to be happy. i guess a zen master would take issue with that statement, but who wants to be a zen master? so i need my wife, my kid, my dog, and my horses. anyone of those people/animals goes missing from the picture and i'm not right. to me they're all part of the balance of my life. each one is like the other. and of course nothing like the other. it's difficult to explain, i guess only people who work on a daily basis with animals would get it. i don't see the humans in my life as any different from the animals. but of course i do. i mean i don't anthropomorphize the animals. we're all different KINDS of animals, but we're all animals anyway, we all want the same things out of life. we're the same in that most basic way, which makes us a lot of the same. and then again we're nothing alike. This tune started out as a guy clark little contemplative acoustic song but then i started hearing a lot of neil young, the way he can take a country tune and crank it into an epic conversation about not just the story of the song but the genesis of the story, i mean all the things that made the story possible. And then from there the song just went where my southern rock/country tunes always go, into guitarland and then back, i guess i see southern music and maybe the south itself as pushing out into unknown territory and then retreating, always that retreat. it seems to define the genre. anyway there you have it.

Lyrics
women and horses
children and dogs
one's just like the other
except when they aint at all
had a bitch named sally
she'd hunt all day long
then she'd sleep by the fire
her legs still moving her along
when there weren't nobody else
to give me some relief
i'd sit in there with her
and me and her we'd have some peace
women and horses
children and dogs
ones just like the other
except when they aint at all
had a horse named ranger
a rank cowboying stud
i'd clean him up on a friday
just to watch him roll in the mud
he could swell your pride
he could break your heart
make you feel ten feet tall
then like you lost a fight in a parking lot
chorus
i've seen some good ones come
i've seen some bad ones go
they mostly look good coming
but soon enough you know
children and dogs
one's just like the other
except when they aint at all
had a bitch named sally
she'd hunt all day long
then she'd sleep by the fire
her legs still moving her along
when there weren't nobody else
to give me some relief
i'd sit in there with her
and me and her we'd have some peace

The phrasing in the lyrics is what moves this for me, the tambourine thats slightly behind my left ear is hypnotizing me, I hope I spelled that right, Some crazy echo in the lead its a trip when it comes back in and ends Beautiful man!
