Description:
Talkin' about when I grew up in South Central Los Angeles in the early to mid 70's

Lyrics:
Verse 1
When I was a youngster back in '73
We used to kick it in the 'hood, just my homies and me
Block parties goin' on cause we had it like that
Ounce of bud for a dime about four fingers fat, yea
We wasn't saggin' baggin' back in the day
And if you had a hustle goin' then you knew how to play
When the Coup De came rollin' girls would stop and stare
They still do, huh. Cause I'm an Ol' School Playa

Chorus
Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa
We're gonna go way back, back to the golden days
Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa
We're gonna go way back, back to the golden days

Verse 2
Tilted brim, hair laid, hat off to the side
We used to cop the playa's pose when we jumped in the ride
We used to lean to the right, not to the left
Oh, yea. Huh, I guess because we had armrests
We were down for ours and we had it real good
you were welcome in the hood as long as you understood
It was a slang thang, not a gang thang
If you wanna try the bang-bang, you would get your dome rang, yea.
Every now and then we'd go to the park
We used to get our freaks on with the girls after dark
It was me, Roni, Mike and Monyea
Back in the day, we knew how to play, hey
And if you had a problem dealing with us
you had to fight the whole crew, it wasn't one on one
Cause everybody had your back and we were on you in layers
To this day, huh, we're still some Ol' School Playas

Chorus
Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa
We're gonna go way back, back to the golden days
Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa
We're gonna go way back, back to the golden days

Bridge
Pimpin, pimpin, come on pimpin, pimpin
Play on
Pimpin, pimpin, come on pimpin, pimpin
Play on
Pimpin, pimpin, come on pimpin, pimpin
Play on
Pimps up, ho's down, pimpin, pimpin
Play on

It's alright, alright if you wanna
It's alright, alright if you wanna
It's alright, alright if you wanna
If you wanna go way, way back
Nawoop aw, nowoop
Nawoop, aw, nawoop, um
Nawoop, aw, nawoop
Nawoop, aw, nawoop
It's alright
It's alright, alright if you wanna
It's alright, alright if you wanna
It's alright, alright if you wanna
If you wanna go way, way back

Chorus out
Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa
We're gonna go way back, back to the golden days
Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa, Ol' School Playa
We're gonna go way back, back to the golden days

great vocals &mdash 02/03/05 - 02:55:52 PM
You can really sing. Very soulful. Not really my taste, but very nicely done. Nice pro sound to it. The Cosmo-D-like chipmunk voice at the end is a great touch

great vocals &mdash 02/03/05 - 09:49:30 PM
Thanks. Rap's not really my thing either. It's just somethng I had in my head
for a while and messing with Garage Band made me want to bring it out. I
appreciate your feedback, though.

Totally hip nostalgia &mdash 02/04/05 - 08:42:18 AM
Totally pro, solid, mainstream from top to bottom. Love
the chutspa of the self-absorbed lyrics. Everything is
totally hip, except that Munchkin pimpin section, which
added a sense of humor and uniqueness to the track, but
just seemed out of place to me. Excellent track, excellent
performance. The past always seems better in
retrospective, doesn't it?

I'm trippin'... &mdash 02/04/05 - 11:47:45 AM
on the chorus. Can't listen to this a keep still. I know it's
loops. But this is schoolin' on how to use them. 10 x 4.
Hell Yeah. Thanks for this one.

still legal &mdash 02/04/05 - 12:52:10 PM
My favorite of the first songs youmhave downloaded. Ready for sale, that's for sure. At first I thought it was an illegal rip from a major label CD. Very well done.

Oh yeah &mdash 02/04/05 - 02:12:15 PM
Never the old days when you an still kick it like this. No era is past if it can move like this. This should be the Now School, beause it never left. You're a heavy, man. What a pleasure!

Great stuff &mdash 02/04/05 - 06:50:00 PM
You have a great sound. I've listened to three of your
songs now and have to say they sound terrific. I won't
claim to know anything about this genre but this did
remind me of 1980's LL Cool J.

Hope you keep writing and producing (and sharing) this
high quality stuff!

Yeah.. &mdash 02/04/05 - 10:55:29 PM
They were different times back then. You sing and play it
well. Singing about those golden days.

Still smiling as I listen...

Nice and funky &mdash 04/26/05 - 09:01:09 AM
Good job in a great genre. I'm a big R & B fan, and this
reminds me a lot of tunes from when I was young. We
must be almost the same age.

Great vocal harmonies on the choruses, nice clean
rhythms. I'm a horn line junkie, so I always think there
needs to be a little sax and trumpet. Maybe think about a
remix with a horn line, just for me? ;)

Tagged.

I'll talk to my partner in rhyme and see if what he can do.

Thanks

Like the groove a lil better than the rap but like it overall. The groove
reminds me a little of Be Thankful For What You Got. And as always your
vocals or solid. Just another example of how the music industry doesn't
get it. Great production. Keep it up.
