Cry of the Erhu

Description
My sadness that the summer is over influenced this song. I got the idea of tune, instruments, etc. from Hans Zimmer's compositions using the Chinese Erhu. After my favorite camp was over, I listened to his score, and it impacted me, and I wrote a song for the Erhu. Summer may be over, but the memories of everything I have done the past two months are stored in this instrumental composition...and yes, I know that sounds cheesy.
Listen and enjoy!

This is very cool
I think you did a really nice job with the Erhu... A very cool instrument when used right! Nicely done!

Fun with samples
Nifty sounding sample (but what's happening at 0:23?).

You're trying to do a sad song here, but it's coming out sounding nervous in some places. For instance that opening phrase, it barely finishes and you start a new phrase. I would try to let the last note hang a bit. For that, you could for instance remove that last di-dip from the melody line, then the last note is four whole beats.

Know what?
I didn't notice that until you pointed it out! How embarrassing, I even finished the song over a month ago and have listened to it (as iTunes says) about 30 times. And I never noticed it!

I'll do better next time.

Thanks!

Very nice melody
I think there is big potential with this. I would suggest slowing it down just a touch. VicDiesel's suggestion is gold as well. In fact I think the tempo being a touch too fast is playing a role in the slight "nervous" feel to the song. I think some cymbal crashes at points of emphasis would add a lot to the dramatic nature of this song as well. Really nice melody here, worth revisiting IMO.

The melody is
sad and sweet. I can't say anything about what needs to be done to it as you have far more talent than I ever had. Erhu sounds like a voice. Thanks.

Melancholy
This tune has several melodies that could be explored and extended out to create a mini-suite...good job.

thanks for the download :)

I am an amateur composer. I enjoy orchestral music, and most of my songs are inspired by music from video games. My list of idols is endless, but my biggest inspirations are Nobuo Uematsu, who composes Final Fantasy, Koji Kondo, who composes pretty... [see more]
