Description
wrote this song, May 28th 1978, the day my daughter was born. I recorded it around 1989 or 90. During Katrina the tape sat under 8 feet of water, then in my garage for the 6 years after. The other day I found the box of old cassette demos, with a little 21st century technology (Garageband), I was able to transfer it over to my computer and clean it up. The intro was lost due to tape deterioration, there may be some hiss and crackle, but I managed to save the rest. Now 30 some odd years after writing it for the birth of my daughter, I 'm adding a video of my grand daughter with her mother, to a song definitely written from the heart...

Lyrics
I look at you and i know that it true
Life can be such a wonderful thing
You are to me, like a fresh breath of spring
And the joy that it brings,
like singing in the rain
I look at you and I see love

Warm sunshine on an open meadow
That's the way you feel to me
Wind whistling through the trees on a hill side
From a warm summer breeze

I look at you and i see love

You and me girl we belong together
like two peas in a pod
Us together love could be forever
Like some trip out to the stars

I look at you and i see love

This was a demo off an 8 track from around 1989. i used garageband to transfer and clean up the tape after it had sit in 8 feet of water during Katrina and languished in my garage for the next 5 and a half years...The intro had deteriorated beyond repair.

This is ACE!
Brilliant stuff, man! That's a great groove, plus there's a little early 80's Grateful Dead in there (in your guitar tone, but also in the mellow stride through and over that funky bed). The tape hiss makes it that much more familiar, like a slightly worn antique. Much enjoyed. More, please!

Thanks
Yeah, We discussed the Grateful Dead tone after we did the session. The guitar player is now the musical director and partner of Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) (We played together back when he lived in New Orleans) He co-produced and co- wrote most of the songs on "Happy in Galoshes" Scott's solo album. You might say this was his first production gig. The hiss drives my wife crazy, but at my age I don't hear it as load. Thanks for the great comments, glad to get such positive feedback from my first effort and first comment here on MJ.

That's great that you were able to save that warm piece of analogue. Nice guitar chording ... I like the progression and sweet little lead tone going on. Very funky jazzy feel to it.

music of love survives katrina swamp
That should be the headline :-) Welcome to Macjams... this was well-worth saving from the murky depths of oblivion. What a sweet tribute to your daughter. The liner notes explain the hiss and make it melt away (in my mind) better than any EQ. Nice writing and playing, upbeat and sweet.

I agree with SJ, I hear a Dead influence. Nice changes and playing, the lyric goes well with the vibe from the backer.

from experience just how exciting it can be to recover old tapes and this sounds so good..... really full backing you've got there and the guitar sounds terrific with those bongos, cheers M
