Lyrics:
If you give me some money
I\'ll sing you a song
Do you think that I do this for free?
but you better be fast
cause i\'m watching the glass
And the water is rising round me

The captain is drunk
and the crew have all jumped ship
the compass aint working no more.
I\'m here on the deck
of this smouldering wreck
I\'m looking for signs of a shore

Some people are lucky
some people are not.
Can you gu ess which of these I might be?
But don\'t waste my time
I\'m not sure I can swim
and the water\'s still rising round me

I wish someone knew
where we are, all I know is
I\'m not where I wanted to be.
I\'m keepig my eyes on the distant horizon
but I can\'t see nothing but sea

If you give me some money
I\'ll sing you a song
Do you think that I do this for free?
But you better be fast
get up off your arse
cause the water is rising round me

much better &mdash 02/05/05 - 12:51:39 AM
Nice improvements. The vocals sound better like this. I like the drumming but it sounds a bit too loud and also sounds like it's peaking. The strings are nice but also come in rather too loud at first. But overall, it sounds quite good. Nice job.

nice one . . . &mdash 02/05/05 - 10:42:45 AM
. . . that's the way !
i went into a bit of a daydream then . . .
felt like i was back a few lifetimes, sitting in a
pub on the docks, waiting to board my ship !
you've got your voice in now . . .
and i'm looking forward to more of your songs . . .

safe

Way to go! &mdash 02/05/05 - 06:10:19 PM
That's so much better. Now the vocal stands up for
itself, it energises the song and gives it momentum.
And it sounds good in its own right. You could take
that voice to any folk club in the UK and not be
ashamed of it.

It should continue to get better too, the more you
use it. Good luck with the next one.

This is very nice &mdash 02/06/05 - 11:06:42 AM
Love the sound of the mandolin and violin together. This
was very refreshing and pleasing.

Excellent Song &mdash 02/06/05 - 12:43:01 PM
I really like this. The lyrics and melody are first rate.
Whimsical, sad and upbeat all at the same time. Only
complaint is the strings do come in a bit loud in the mix.

It's nice to hear the different versions as you are wokring
on this tune.

Still grooving on this song. The drums are too loud,
though, very clipped. I agree with the comment about the
string volume. I like that they stay up while the rest of the
song fades, though. Like the ship is going underwater as
the vocals fade away.

Good tune &mdash 04/14/05 - 06:05:15 PM
I think the lyrics are really nice and evocative..you
obviously spend a lot of time getting them just right. This
has a really nice wistful feel to it... a gentle acceptance of
life and its pitfalls perhaps? Its always nice to see 'crap
guitar' and 'white wine' get mentioned in the hardware
section too!

i take back everything i said about the first version - your voice sounds fabulous here - why are you worried? it's great! loads more power than the previous version. i also think your lyrics are excellent - not only here but in your other compositions too - thank you xxx
