Description
...what to say... first off, i haven't the slightest idea what genre to post this in so if there's a knowing soul, please advise. this is a tune that came to me like many do - trying to shake something that irritates the crap outta me and in this case, it's mindless horn blowers. it's also the folks who provoke or beg to have horns blown at them. you know, people... i lived in Seattle for most of my adult years and folks there are wise enough to know that patience is a virtue and horn blowing is a&&holeness. i live in California now but this is not to make some false blankited statement about them because it happens in most cities. The title of this tune kinda represents my attitude about every street that I've ever lived on and I've lived on some pretty quite streets. It's not about the emptiness of the street as much as it is about the street being empty of my particular needs or, the needs of most any loner... However, there are some other interesting/outstanding/historically significant/globally well known features about this particular area or street that i live on, but you'd have to have visited me to better understand my attitude. If you are one of the MJRs who has visited me and you'd like to comment, please do. it just won't sound authentic coming from me... - i can't seem to align the right choice of words to capture it without having it sound thoroughly wrong...

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope that you enjoy it.

twelve and a half minutes and i never noticed. who i am kidding? dude this is great....you really capture the space of wind-down time in the city. it's like you're holding up a mic and recording it happen before you.
everything perfectly spaced...no-one does space like you do.

No genre ideas.
Ambient jazz? Patient compelling transience. Masterful beats, love the lows sparing used. Cool percussion. Soundtrack material I reckon, it fits the description of city life you mentioned. Unique musically direction and vision, an epic piece but an easy listening experience. So this is why you have been missing, this must have taken a bit of effort. Excellent material here Macca.

Streets
Lived in them, grew in them, learned from them, This is some serious interplay between many elements, that heavy bass an drums the vox and the way things come and go, you are not afraid to put any sound next to another, thanks from my street to yours! I wish some of the drum bass jam parts were longer its just because I love them so much! Outstanding piece of music

Could you
be commenting on the phenomenon of being isolated even within a crowd? I think a dance troupe would find inspiration here to stage a riveting dance. I also would love to hear this piece played by an orchestra in a concert hall. You are brilliant and this was pure gold. Thanks.

You could call
this Contemporary Classical for me ,there is a bit of jazzrock around the 6 minute mark....but it's all good in my ears....I am detecting subtle honks and horns....obviously references to the aforementioned hooters.....car horns...just in case that hooter word has a different connotation stateside !!

Okay...I finally got here...
This is a particularly good one, Dion...a sort Dionistical jazzbluesartrock symphony... And very symphoneous, with all the tones and tonalities seeming to sort of belong together...

I don't know what a "tone poem" is, but this sounds like what those words should mean...

I like how you drop those occasional low bass guitar notes in there....especially set against those low, low vocal tones at times... Percussion workout about halfway through is really neat...

Back in the day, this would've been a whole album side.... It's not psychedelic music by any means, but it has a mind expanding element to it, or a mind EXPANDED element to it, YOUR mind being the one that got itself expanded...

This may another one that needs to live in my iPod. I'll just scurry off with it now...

Edge comes in...
...from the other room and says, "Hey, that's Dion...I've known without knowing him my whole life..."

I thought that was cool and funny...

Those look like the fancy Grados around your neck in that photo...

Macca!
Sorry I'm so, so late to your party here - I've "been away" from MJ and lots of stuff for a few months, but am now trying to get back to some special friends' songs that have been stuck in my inbox. It's great to see you are still about and still making music.

This is a pretty classy piece of work my friend - I never understand how you keep a lid on all the ideas that run through your head. I also don't understand how you manage to have the self control to put all your ideas into a long piece like this.

A very satisfying auditory experience.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil
