Description
This is a new PBGB tune - lyrics by Pete, music by Neil.
Players: Peter Reid - drums; Kevin Breeze - bass; Lyndon Lewis (in the photo) - bendy lead; Neil Porter - rhythm and vocals.
We had done this a few times with a much slower feel, and thought it might have been worth quickening up a little - lucky we had the recorder rolling.
Apart from a little panning, a tiny bit of EQ and a dash of Ozone, this is basically how we recorded it. It's live and a single, first take. We got so excited we fluffed the finish, but we had a lot of fun!

Lyrics
I’M OUT THERE SOMEWHERE (Lyrics by Peter Reid)

THERE’S A PLACE SOMEWHERE
I CAN FIND OUT WHO I AM
SORT IT OUT ALL BY MYSELF
FIND MY PROMISED LAND

DRIVING UP THE PRINCE’S HIGHWAY
NOT SURE WHERE I’M GOIN
LOOKIN FOR A PLACE TO STAY
FIND AN OFFSHORE BLOWIN

HAD A MORTGAGE, HAD A JOB
HAD A WEDDING RING
I FOUND OUT THAT WASN’T ENOUGH
WASN’T REALLY HER THING

THERE’S A PLACE SOMEWHERE
I CAN FIND OUT WHO I AM
SORT IT OUT ALL BY MYSELF
FIND MY PROMISED LAND

I’VE GOT MY DOG, GOT MY DRUMS
GOT MY SURFBOARD TOO
GOIN TO FIND MYSELF A PLACE
A LONG LONG WAY FROM HER

SOMEWHERE UP THAT HIGHWAY
THERE’S A PLACE JUST RIGHT
RIDE THE WAVES THROUGH THE DAY
PLAY MUSIC THROUGH THE NIGHT

THERE’S A PLACE SOMEWHERE
I CAN FIND OUT WHO I AM
SORT IT OUT ALL BY MYSELF
FIND MY PROMISED LAND
FIND MY PROMISED LAND
FIND OUT WHO I AM
FIND MY PROMISED LAND

Thanks Jack!
I'd like to DO a live set, but we've become so much like a revolving door these days that I'm never quite sure who's playing :) Not a bad thing mind you, but a bugger to organise into a gig situation down here.
Glad you enjoyed it.

This is awesome cool, Love how this is put together, you all know exactly when to play and when not to (if that makes sense!) well done

Hey Neil
Dynamics is something that happened automatically on this one - Lyndon and I seem to have a bit of a feel for spaces in music, which works really well. We work at dynamics, but it doesn't always work as well as this did.
We really appreciate you dropping in for a listen.
Cheers,
N

Hi Feter
I was just reflecting on how different your circumstances are now compared to when we first "met" at MJ. I'm very pleased for you. I loved the amazing "bendy" sounds Lyndon was getting out of his Gretsch - he has also played a 50th anniversary Deluxe Strat, and a 1961 Strat (amongst others) which always sound brilliant. Thanks for staying interested in what we do my friend!
Cheers,
N

Thor
You're definitely always welcome for a jam next time you're in Pambula Beach ;) Lyndon's Gretsch is a beautiful guitar - makes you play a totally different style to the Tele (most guitarists already know this, but I'm still learning).
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

From the git-go...
nice understated driving beat. You guys got a great sound. You're out there, but not so far that we can't really enjoy. Nice guitar, vox... dang the whole thing. Cool band!

ssssssizzz
the smack o the drum, the rhythm guitar smooth n subtle, the bendy guitar lead TOTALLY doin the bend - guess i have to put some good phones on to hear the bass - sounds a tad low blaring into my 4.27 acre yard on my macbook. this slinks, slithers, quivers and quietly quakes. Neil, you sound good -very relaxed - and notice i do NOT say "as usual" - a phrase I'd personally like to never hear again. real nice mix job, particularly voice against music balance. you boyz are hot. anne

Thanks for the listen Big Sis!
We all had a good time this day - Lyndon adds a certain level of anticipation during a song - never know quite where he's going to go, but it's usually good (and always interesting). Kev's bass is a really different style to mine or Chris'- much more subtle, less aggressive, but really "on" the beat. I'm enjoying playing with him a lot, and with Lyndon also. I think you'll find quite audible bass once you put the phones on ........ as usual ;)
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Viva "La Shed"!
Hey guys, great rocking song that has drive and attitude to burn. Fantastic R&B feel that the recording has captured wonderfully. Love the vocals and the guitar work. Not to mention the bass and the drums :-) Another stellar post from "The Shed". Downloaded. Regards, Peter.

This sounds terrific to me, Neil...
I like the live feel to the thing, and it seems like everyone's got a part to play...So the drums, and I love the drumming on this, are carrying one bit of the groove, and then the bass line is something different, but locked right in, and then the guitars are awesome....

Gratefully plonked into the iPod...
