Concept/arrangement
I tried not to "over-engineer" this one since I get stuck in the mix mode when I do. I still got a little stuck with this one since it started out as just a few impromptu tracks. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Nice lo-fi post
Like jibes, I'm amazed that people like yourself can get this out of "the basic equipment". Watching your comments in chat, I can see the post as the soundtrack to what you are describing. I got a little confused with the "church/throwing maidens into a volcano" juxtaposition, but it would make a good short film for sure. :)

Hah, hah! That was my fault.
I wrote that after I started hearing a Hawaiian sound and I thought of a 1951 movie with Louis Jourdan and Debra Paget.(Bird of Paradise) Papa mentioned a kind of Church sound. The two weren't meant to go together.

lovely!
Love the way the strings get defeated by the other elements as they loop in; it gives them a highly pleasing, sussurating quality. The voice is wonderful. Some effective post-processing, and this could be a really cool art/ambient piece. As it stands, it feels a little too crisp and dry, if you know what I mean. This sound, as it stands, would perhaps be suited to a slow-motion open-air daylight scene in a weird movie about transformation.

enigmatic
simple in structure, yet rich in worldly song... it vibrates all my molecules in some forgotten dawn of tribal yearning. I like it, and it could be extended with parts added, then hushed, over the course of the piece, to create a dramatic chant. 0x0

Wow
this is a really interesting peice of music, I was a little lost until the slide sort of pulled me into a comfortable place in there. It was like a thread appeared and I could grab on to it and relax for the rest of the tune. It has a sort of exotic far away place sound to it, but I cant put my finger on where. Maybe Hawaii, but sort of native Amreican a tad as well. Really interesting!

how cool is this?
I can't decide if it's plaintive or nostalgic. There is a keening quality, but the chord progression is a little bittersweet. Regardless, it's super cool and great quality for what you were using to record. Excellent guitar playing and I think your vocals are awesome.

pick the plaintive
I was just exploring raw recording techniques...and it worked I guess.

You know I love your stuff, so your compliment is much appreciated

Slide
Great for a pin hole mike. My favourite parts are some of those slide moments.

Hum?
At the very least this is interesting. What's the low singing / humming noise? That one is quite haunting, and you could have made a whole piece with it, as far as I'm concerned. Slide guitar is cool, the relentlessly pounding string chords are not so much.

pounding strings
yeah, I agree on the string bits... i think i let them get to hot in the mix

the low singing/humming noise would be theremin if it's in the mix before the vocals come in

thanks for listening and the feedback.

Strings...
...I'm with Vic on that one, but the slide guitar throughout is really shimmery and cool. I can see this piece taking on a little more contour and interest were you to expand the harmonic vocab beyond four chords. There's a lot of potential to a mesmerizing giant loop, though. Melody, for instance, can spring out in all sorts of places if you let it just sing.

Good stuff and done righteously. No reason to back up to anyone here.
