Description
Here’s a little tune me and 2 friends knocked up.
Michael and Freddy AKA Finkeldink and Loob lent me their considerable talents to get this done.
This was an exercise in swift, effective and fun collaboration. I supplied the acoustic guitar and vox then shipped it off to Mike for bass and lead guitar who then forwarded it to Freddy for the drums and mix/master.
Working with these guys is a breeze as they just “get it”. There was no back and forth, everything just fell into place and worked.
We kept this nice a simple and it’s all the better for it.
Massive thanks lads. This was fun!

Lyrics
Verse
Polly talk, talks on the phone
just to tell her mother she wont be home
While Suzy plays truant alone
skipping school breakin rules shes outa control
Mandy stands at the corner
waiting for a man in a car to adore her
Cindy acts just like the rest
she does what she wants, thinks she knows best

Chorus
Their gonna stay out all night
get high, get drunk and get into a fight
these kids are tired of doing it right
their gonna sleep around, screw this town
it's to uptight.

Verse
Johnny sits at home in the dark
sniffing glue with his mates and having a laugh
Stevies buying shit for him mommy
he knows tonight h'es gonna go hungry
Sally's turning tricks on the street
She’s getting pimped, fucked
but she needs to eat
Jenny's all battered and bruised
but she's in love with the one that gives the abuse

Chorus
Yeah their probably gonna die tonight
get stabbed shot or set alight
no ones gonna miss them when their gone
these kids are alone, they've got no one

Bridge
They never had a chance
They never got to dream
Living their lives on the line
That’s so obscene

Chorus
Their gonna stay out all night
get high, get drunk and get into a fight
these kids are tired of doing it right
their gonna sleep around, screw this town
it's to
their probably gonna die tonight
get stabbed shot or set alight
no ones gonna miss them when their gone
these kids are alone, they've got
these kids are alone, they've got
these kids are alone, they've got no one

The apple don't fall far from the tree,
It grows in the shadow of it's family
No way out
No way out

Dealt a bad hand and shown the wrong the path,
trapped in the dark with no guiding light
They go no chance
They got no chance

Thanks Ed
I knew there was a superstar vocalist in there. Ha! Great song writing Ed; this song flows wonderfully. I had the easy part; I just got in key and played along.

Freddy did a great job with the drums and the mix/master. You are so good at what you do.

Sorry it took me a couple months to get my poop grouped on this one.

It was a real pleasure working with you boyz! This turned out great!

Fred and the crew... bodily parts are a moving and grovin. Brilliant job guys. Fred, excellent job mate. Yep, this is top draw. Lead and rhythm guitars are solid esp during the brake downs. Lyrics and singing, super duper, satirical yet a reflection of Gloucestershire? surely not? Exceptionally cool track ... encore please.

Excellent! Great lyric and vocal...Everything about this is terrific, the mix is really nice and phat. The guitar playing is melodic and tasty and the rhythm section is fantastic on this; great bass line over a killer drum groove. Killer collab guys!

Great tune with energy and synergy! I really dig the mixture of high energy rocking with the "calm between the storms". Nice song writing, Ed

The Kids
Sometimes I hear a collab where it sounds like it came together in a seamless way. This would be a nice example of that. Catchy and cool. Love the chorus.

The Kids are Alone
Cool song, great collab - everyone played their parts perfectly and the song is very enjoyable to listen to. Then I read the lyrics and wow! That is some powerfully dark stuff, but well sung, well played, and it all works great together - congrats!

As mentioned earlier...
there is nothing forced or "patched up" sounding on this--it's as if you three have been together for quite a long time and did this live. Excellent pop song in itself and fine work by everybody involved here (again, playing off each other incredibly well). Thanks for bringing this to us and full marks for a very professional job on this!

The Kids are Alone
I get a Moody Blues vibe from this. Cool story, nice vocals. Strong playing all around - I like that lead break, and the picked guitar at the end especially. Great collab!

So Good
Love this song. Everything gels. The energy is infectious and achieves a satisfying "Rockin Out" level. Ed's vox sound really good here and he has cool sounding voice. Bassline propels nicely and adds some nice detail when needed. Guitars both acoustic and electric are played well and the riffs are engaging. The guitar solo rips and matches the overall emotion of the song. I love the acoustic breakdown after the solo. The final chorus elevates the song to a great conclusion. Lastly the lyrics are a sly and interesting social commentary. The vocal melody applied to them totally works and makes them flow effortlessly. Perhaps they vox a a little loud in the mix, but that is a very minor observation. Killer songwriting Ed, and stellar playing by everyone.

wow
very impressive work guys. you guys sound like you play together all the time. some really great bits in here. not to single out anyone's part as being "the best" or anything like that, but DAMN your voice sounds great.

mrattue said 633 days ago (August 30th, 2011)
Very well
put together, guys. Everything sounds pretty tight and effective to me.

The intense cynicism and tragedy of the subject matter is not well-reflected in the bright energy of the music, for me however, though this is addressed to some extent in the slower passages. The energy could be interpreted as anger, which is very relevant, but perhaps needs a harsher edge if this is the source of it?

On the other hand it could well be that i am missing the point! Wouldn't be the first time!

Impressive collaborative effort, all the same, and enjoyed the listen.

Great picture you paint.
Great in-your-face recording - so clear. Lots of great details. My big-picture comment is that story, the details here. My one "little picture" thing that resonates particularly well for me is that little droning guitar in back of the chorus.

kids are alone
edmondo....you sound like bob geldof pre "i'm a good guy and i'm going to save the world from famine and capitalism".
yeah this rocks.....is that mike on elec guitar? excellent. yeah basically you can just slam your fat ass down on the keyboard and send it to freddy and he'll turn it into something meaningful.....not to suggest in any way that that's what you did.....cos dude you're ass is pert and sweet.....and the acoustic and lyrics and progressions are cool. i might have had a word with you about vocal phrasing....cos you know what i'm like....but seriously....this rocks. it's good. sorry i wasn't here earlier to propel it up the charts.....but better late than kneaver.
