Description
Written in 1914 by WC Handy and still a popular blues song today.
Wikipedia says "Handy said he had been inspired by a chance meeting with a woman on the streets of St. Louis distraught over her husband's absence, who lamented: "Ma man's got a heart like a rock cast in de sea", a key line of the song. Details of the story vary but agree on the meeting and the phrase".
For me, this song is always one I've wanted to sing, but after a holiday in St Louis (Summer 2010) to visit my niece, it rose up the priorities! And I've pronounced the 's' in Louis because that's what the natives do!
