Description

I have always loved this song, but alas, the only baby I walk home these days is my dog Farina when I take him out on our nightly prowls about the neighborhood and the little nature park nearby.

I'm nearly certain I've committed mix suicide by channeling this thing and other odds and ends (was going to advertise this under the attention-grabbing banner "Puts YOU in the Audience!!" or "Puts YOU Out of Sorts!") but yanno, you learn from your mistakes (of which this is the LEAST of them, let me tell you!)

I've always thought I was the one having suicidal tendencies when it comes to mixing but repeated attempts seems to make us safer people :-) Great performance as always Michael, and I love the song page, I think it's a beauty added to the song and your performance. Lovely picture of Farina and I was struck by the keywords ! And the point about Nostradamus is a revelation for me, although I think I remember seeing a few open collaborations on ProphetsOnline.com :-)

I did a version of this thing a couple years ago that I think I performed better, but don't ya know it sounds like it was recorded in a missile silo (way too much reverb back in those days). I'm glad you liked this version however! But back to the mixing: it's taken me a good 6 or 7 years, but I've reached the implacable conclusion that no mix is ever THE perfect mix--you just do the best you can I suppose! Thanks for listening and thanks for the kind words! Yanno, one thing I wanted to develop as part of any "style" (such as I have) is to be sure the listener clearly understands each and every word, so I'm pretty sure you had to to replay that part because you were a bit puzzled or intrigued by that lyric, which as I picture it now, getting talcum powder all over your vest must have entailed some removal of clothes for all I can figure! Either that or the girl had talcum powder in her hair or better yet, had a tub of it that she brought out just for that particular application--I'm not sure! I'm pretty sure back in those days however, that they did not have spray on deodorant and stuff--talcum was probably it back in those days! You take care now and hope you have a good week! Michael

when I read about your "mix suicide" I listened a few times to see what you meant.. only "odd" things that struck me was how the vocals were a little to the right (which worked fine I thought) but then at around 01:07 (for the instrumental break) the band seemed to all shift/drift left- then return to the C for the vocals coming back. I would have just kept the band C for the intrumental break.. perhaps the ride cymbals could be a smidge off to the left.. but just volume automate the band +0.5 or +1db?? This is all subjective conjecture needless to say.. it was a marvelous rendition with great performances all round.

Thanks for the advice regarding panning (something I rarely do and on this thing, I believe I used Mixcraft for the post production and I'm more experience with Audition) but I conceded the panning deal was a bit sloppy (I think Adobe does a more accurate job of it--or at least it's easier to gauge--not sure!).
