Description

First (short) post since upgrading to Lion and GB '11 (v6.0.4).

Good news was that POD Farm worked much better now with my Line6 POD X3 Pro, so I started to spend more time with some electric guitars and even used the POD for the bass amp simulation instead of Ampeg SVX: a kinda Honeycrack, Wildhearts, Danko Jones, Theory of a Dead Man, Royal Republic, Franz Ferdinand thang resulted ..err kinda :o)

I opted to not play drums on this, so far... got lazy.

Apologies for the shortness: one my 'capture the idea' posts.. I have some ideas for making it song length. Personally not happy with how the vocals sit in the mix (usually something I have more luck with addressing if I move the project over into Logic.. which I can't do as yet :o( Glad you enjoyed the fun lyrics- yeah DoD is fine (and quicker for me) but when your learning to drum and have a Roland TD-9K you should really get to grips with it....I'll be re-visiting this. I also tried different kinds of soloing..but the most generic/standard riffs seemed to sit better with the rest, so I went with that. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

I had also given my Les Paul it's yearly service: cleaned, polished, new strings, re-set up (bridge height/pick-up height.. intonation) and changed the 9V battery for the EMG pickups I had put in it. I don't even know if I have saved any of the modelling I used really... I think it's possible to share them online via a Line6 web-server..if your interested, I created a "main" sound from the guitar as a dual blend of "Bomber Uber with 4x12 2001 Line6 Cab" & "Brit J-800 with 4x12 1978 Brit Celest T-75s" both using "57 off axis" micing. I track automated some panning in the intro (thanks to GB v6) and for additional spice used the same base sound with some "Auto swell" and "Sub-octaves". For the bass I just used the preset "Skate Park". It was very much an experiment with Line6 amp modelling: trying to get/emulate the rich, modern beefy sound the artists I mention use, that I like.

.. I could say it was my punk leanings that led to it being so short.. but I'd be lying and if you could see the "Work in progress" box I ticked when uploading, you'ld have surmised this was indeed a "Work in progress" :o) I just fancied sharing for some early feedback...and thanks to gator I have a new lyrical idea! Yay!

I tuned the guitars down a semitone (never sung in this key before) but was a necessity to get that fat, crunchy guitar tone of my peers...but I'm not happy with the vocal mix... I need my Logic upgrade.

Wallace and Gromit
Your comment about sheep reminded me of Wallace and Gromit, for some reason. Does Wallace dream of Gromit? All the time, when not dreaming of cheese, I imagine. I'd bet Gromit rarely dreams of Wallace, except in a nightmare.

I dig the harmonies. I'd boost the vocals' hi end and pan the harmonies more, surrounded by righteous voices!

..bit cheesy?? lol Thanks, I needed some tips on the vocals.. my ears where like Wensleydale after doing the guitars lol...I might go back to treating the vocal tracks first individually with Ozone 3 and there I can boost the high end (unlike just hoping for the best on using Ozone just on the master track). Have you been watching "A close shave" recently by any chance? Fabulous films/characters.

must confess I haven't heard of Catherine wheel until now.. checked out some of their songs on you tube (those I was permitted to view in my country)- and I'm very flattered and thanks for putting me on to them. I loved "Heal" (Radiohead-ish), Delicious, Waydown, Ma solituda, Angelo Nero and many more.. my kinda music. Yup, this will be worked a bit more.

	I get the impression that you are making a strong social comment even though there is a humorous slant to your lyrics. It's a blast..
..and a lot less people to split any earnings with ;o) hehehe. Ah, the lyrics.. well, never wise to delve into the inner workings of my head but I will say this much: I like how they can be interpreted as "strong social comment" or "impression of strong social comment" or just a "fun" or "humorous" mix of "right", "wrong" & "left". Onwards to version 2... perhaps new additions will make a more cohesive stance on the possible interpretations... or maybe not... we'll see. :o)
