Having gone through divorce a health scare and now redundancy 2011 could be for me what our British Queenie called an "Annus Horribilis " , I think that’s latin for "pain in the arse". Anyway I'm determined not to go under so decided to write something positive.
"Trimming the wick from the candle of chaos" was a phrase I think Jarvo used in a comment on one of our old songs and I liked it so used it as the basis for this song.
The guitar is in Open G and was a little phrase I'd been playing with for a while. A completely solo effort this one so no nice touches from Steve but hey he's not always around!
Well I hope this comes accross as positive. The love of a good woman has certainly helped get me through this year oh and Oxytocin is something I heard mentioned on BBC Radio 4
Apparently it's the "love drug" (check Wikipedia) and I don't imagine it's been used in many songs before this!! Cheers Mark

Lyrics
Trimming the Wick
The night has gotten so late
The hoot of owl
Meets the cry of the cockerel
The night has gotten so late
Do you know what?
The grass really is greener
On the other side of the fence
On the other of the fence
Do you know what?
I can really see clearer
From the other side of the fence
From the other of the fence
I’m trimming the wick
From the candle of chaos
Sorting the wheat from the heat
Ice in your heart will melt
And the blood it begins to flow
Just a droplet of tears
And a dreamlet of sleep
Oxytocin
The night has gotten so late
The hoot of owl
Meets the cry of the cockerel
The night has gotten so late
Do you know what?
The grass really is greener
On the other side of the fence
On the other of the fence
Do you know what?
I can really see clearer
From the other side of the fence
From the other of the fence
I’m trimming the wick
From the candle of chaos
Sorting the wheat from the heat
Ice in your heart will melt
And the blood it begins to flow
Just a droplet of tears
And a dreamlet of sleep
Oxytocin
