Description
I find myself completely engrossed in my day gig, planning lessons, attending trainings, and just trying to be the best 1st grade teacher I can be. Each fall I get a chance to revisit the series of children’s songs I record in the summer of 2009. Back then I was just learning how to use GarageBand. I’ve learned a thing or two since then and have set about remixing those songs. The artwork is from a PowerPoint presentation I project on the whiteboard so the students can read along while they sing along.
I found this little tune in a book of children’s songs I have. It was originally a round (“Row, Row, Row Your Boat” type of thing). At first I thought the absence of a formal chord structure would limit what I could do with the arrangement. I quickly came to realize the absence of a set chord progression gave me the freedom to do basically whatever I wanted. So I made sure to have some fun.
As for the reading content, this is a great one to use while teaching developing readers about the long e sound. Sweetly, donkey, feed, he’ll, and the repeated hee-haw help children recognize the long e sound when they hear it and see it when they encounter it in new words.
As always, thanks for taking the time to listen.
