Description
I wrote this song two weeks ago for Airport Seven to play at our Occupy Wall Street benefit show at Goodbye Blue Monday in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The music is the demo I gave to the band to work from - all live except the drum loops. The vocals I just recorded today with a lost voice from yesterday's rally in Times Square. The picture above was taken by a woman I handed my camera to as she was standing on a higher perch. The field recordings are lifted off of video I have been shooting. This all just came together in the last hour - time is really tight these days - so it's pretty rough - but that's sort of the point. Play loud - mastered a little low.
Thanks for taking time to listen.

99% are marching in the street
99% are texting in the dark
99% are taking all the heat

1% are lying in their satin sheets
1% are building Noah's golden arc
1% are sleeping while they profit from their greed
soon the 1% will wake up in the dark

Today the sun is shining on the 99%
Listen to the voices - voices of dissent

This is excellent! Totally catches the vibe of what's happening there and it's spreading everywhere ... I like the rawness of this recording. Cool vocals against a rockin' dischordal progression.

Bravo!
The movement is truly inspiring, something I have personally been waiting for for whole my life. I thought I was going to bump into you at Times Square yesterday, but never did see you. I was there for the whole thing and then marched downtown.

I like this song, even though it is a bit rough as you mention. I like the "Thurston"-ish guitar, as well as the vocals and arrangement. Of course, the lyrics speaks for themselves.

I had sort of given up the revolution
I was full in it in the late sixties - early seventies (having a draft card briefly was a motivator) - but then career and kids put me to sleep for thirty plus years. 9/11 was extremely traumatic here in NYC and now the PTS is over and it's time for major change. I have high hopes for this movement.

I'm not in the photo
this was from the middle looking uptown - the same sea was in the other direction. Afterwards we had an after-rally in Washington Square park with about 1,500 till the midnite curfew. I went home as others then went down to Zuccotti park. Incredible day.

Powerful
Good way to introduce the song. The tone of the instruments suits the message of the song. This level of action hasn't reached here (Australia) in a large scale way yet, but I suspect there'd be support for the belief that a few are getting a lot, lot more than the many.

Very strong
It gives goosebumps, to hear the crowd, then hearing one who comes out of it, and start singing ... I think the instrumentation works well with the feel of the song.

Thank you for taking us to Times Square Kevin, there were rallies over here too, I read on the newspaper that one of the manifestants was beaten up ... I hope things went more peacefully over there ...

Our police are very afraid
they are being forced to do things against their conscience. They are fighting a losing battle. Unfortunately that fear turns to hatred and violence and we are on the receiving end. They deserve compassion as much as anyone - even as they knock me down.

Grunge really suits the subject.

Here's to a shift in the balance of power (but I'm not sure it'll happen as the guys at the very top are so removed from us that they really do live in another world)

Totally enjoyed this Kevin
I was right into the Vietnam anti-war movement in the 60s and it's good to feel my blood stirring again while listening to this. I like the upfront vocal - it's fitting that the words are front and centre. In fact, I like the whole mix a lot - and it's good to hear a good protest song.
Cheers from Oz,

Kevin - it's GREAT and packs a huge wallop to the ear and mind - the darkly dramatic groove captured me but good. The lyrics are perfect - and I think your lost voice finds a perfect place here. The cauldron of raw energy is a wonderful thing to hear bubble and brew. Glad you were there, glad this is here. Anne

dig the guitar. great buzz. i've been watching your facebook posts and trying to get into the spirit of it, but frankly me and most people i know are all just busy working and raising kids. Guess we're in that 'asleep' phase. that having been said, it's never a bad thing for the folks to remind the power structure that they're still around.

Thanks - I think I learned my lesson
I allowed myself to become emotional during a confrontation with the police during a peaceful march - and the result was a single blow to the body that knocked me off my feet into the people behind me. The very large officer then grabbed my feet to pull me into the street and arrest me - when those around me grabbed my upper body and wrenched me away and dragged me to the back of the group. Their kindness caused more injury than the initial hit - but I would have suffered much more if they had not gotten me away. I left with only some bumps and bruises.

Sound sentiment ....
I saw or heard somewhere that on your Declaration of Independence is a statement that is to the effect that if a government is wrong then it is the responsibility of those who are able to change that to then do so ....or something similar....correct me if I am wrong ( I mean of course it was the British government of the day that was the problem ...but having read history ....Good job)

Same sentiment goes for this ...very cool the way you have morphed the vox populis into the song.......and great sentiment.....

I can understand how this song just poured out. It has all the hallmarks of a song that deeply taps into something that is widely felt and rings true. You've set just the right musical tone here: frustration, anger, calling out injustice, and motivation to act while pulling no punches.

Evocative way to capture the sprit of the demonstrations.
