Description
This is a layered piece composed on Mixtikl on iPad and iMac. The tracks are all using the DSynth FM synthesizer in Mixtikl - hence the title (kids, ask your parents). This is a generative piece where all of the patterns tracks and rules were programmed in Mixtikl but the software evolves the rhythm and music based on rules I provided to the engine - very cool stuff! Mixtikl is the successor to Koan which was used by Brian Eno in his Ambient music album in the 90s.

Thanks for the listen. I blog a bit more about Mixtikl at http://whitherwalter.blogspot.com

It is a very interesting way to create music.

That slightly slurpy bass is delicious!
And I didn't hear any static at all. This is fun: do you edit after generation (as it were) or do you just accept, and how complex is the programming?

Thanks!
Hi Richard - Thanks for listening. There is much more on Mixtikl at http://intermorphic.com. Very cheap on the iPad/iPod and not that bad for the desktop either. The interface is quirky but you get used to it and at least its the same on every device. I usually do the work in Mixtikl and then mix it down to a WAV file. If I don't like its "generativeness", I try it again. The next release promises midi recording so I suspect it will be possible to edit the generated pieces. This piece was all Mixtikl but it also functions as an AU plugin (the desktop version) so you can make it an evolving track in Logic or garageband. The programming takes some getting used to - there are good manuals online and some excellent tutorials on youtube.
