Description
I have come late to this Challenge Earthlets....Bodang Girig and other greetings....and I can't keep this bufoonery up either........look I missed this 'cos I was revamping my back room and only really glancing at MJ now and again.....and now that the music is emerging I feel a little left out, having resolved to do something in a hurry to get into this I thought that there as no way I was going to get an electronic piece together in shoprt order so I looked at the guitars and it was not immediately obvious what they would bring ....then I had a flash of inspiration from Richard 13s artwork ....you know the astronaut on "Here and There" rang a bell and so this afternoon I came up with this pile of old toot........it is wrong...it has the wrong sort of instrument and the model is a 30's comic hall George Formby type of song it is original but in his style, so it is old fashioned space race ,all wrong......but I don't care......so there.Have fun......

Lyrics
Floating Far Above the Earth

As I float around the earth

I get a sense of my true worth

I have to say ee by 'eck

Here I am an insignificant speck

Floating Far above the earth

They said to me now listen Ace

will you take partin a space race

from here to the moon and back again

Because we think you're a dead cert to win

Me, like a twit said count me in......

But now as I float around the earth I get

a sense of my true worth

I have to say ee by 'eck Here I am

an insignificant speck

Floating far above the earth

So they strapped me into a rocket powereded can

lit the blue touch paper and me journey began

I whizzed around the moon which I thought was cool

But floating now I feel such a fool

Cos like a real daft lad....I've run out of fuel

Now as I float around the earth I get

a sense of my true worth

I have to say ee by 'eck Here I am

stuck inside me little tin can

Floating far above the earth

Now I've got time on me hands so I can gaze

into the vastness that we all call space

Bloomin' eck I say it looks real big

so much so I think I 'll flip my lid If I have to stay

floating far above the earth

Well Chris
As Skean use to say, music is about having fun, and this was fun* alright, and totally within the rules of the challenge, as far as I can understand. This instrument playing and 30's style singing about hi tech stuff like floating in a space suit around the earth is quite THE oxymoron ;-)

* Well, not so fun for you perhaps, floating around up there all alone with nothing but space debris for company. But remember you came up with a unique song and the best song art in the challenge so far :-)

Thanks for participating and take care (up there),

Henke

space blues
I believe the rule is that every "space blues" song must start with the line "as I float around the earth", so you are well within the letter of the law, here. This is absolutely a delight... great artwork, incredibly quickly assembled, hilariously fun lyrics (of course, it is Chris after all), and other than sounding like it was recorded at the back end of a space capsule (terribly authentic then) I cannot reb-uke you for that. After the challenge is over, I will have somebody use your little motorbike to fly up with some petrol for you... hold tight.

Nice pun....
the recording is slightly deliberate..and partly neccesary..I wanted a 30's tone which on GF pressings is slightly "toppy" but also the uke banj is a bit of a pig to get a recording of because they can "boom" at the bass end of the recording and they sound awful......now about that rescue mission....it is 11/11 after all !!

i like how you used the "wrong" instrument. makes it that much more clever. the whole thing makes sense to me, and I think you could be an indie rock superstar with this track. great job.

George Formby in Outer Space
This is certainly the most unique offering in the space race challenge and of course, I love the style you chose for this Chris. It works really well and I'm glad it's "different". You are a natural entertainer and did a fine job here--I rather fancied you orbiting the moon sitting atop an impossibly small rocket ship playing perhaps for some recently landed astronauts. As the man said "It turned out nice again!" Thanks again Chris!

Thanks michael....
I slung this load of old toot together and yet even I have yto say I am amazed and warmed by the response and I actually quite like it a bit meself....I think some times faster is more spontaneous and it works better for me...I am more of a cartoonist than a fine artist and me music seems to work similarly...Thanks for stopping in.

Hi...yes guilty as
charged...not in the same league as your artwork I am afraid but they do serve as some sort of mild enterytainyment....Therewas a serious little point in the tune which you have nicely picked out and the rest was just a laff

How cool is this? No reason that space couldn't be produced from an old banjo or uke.

Definitely not enough ukes in space
It's about time someone did something about that. It's actually a perfect choice - small and durable. Excellent.

that was a fun listen, chris! it sounds as you are about as up on technology as i am, but i'm patting you on the back for that one. if i could know that i was gonna more of the same, i might delve more into the space race, but i don't think that this is gonna happen, as i'm too for out for that. lol!

good one! enjoyed the listen! thanks for the traveler too! Dion
