Description
I remember looking up at a clear night sky with my dad pointing out the various constellations. On the countryside you can still see the stars... Many cold winter nights I spent looking through my the small lens of my new telescope after that - something about that vastness and mystery of an endless sky. In hindsight, searching for far away planets and star clusters was the closest to a meditative feeling I got when I was young.

All these nice memories came to mind a few nights ago during a full moon night, around the time when I did this simple track.

Nice!
Simple is good. Nothing here that shouldn't be... the overall feeling is calm, soothing, but open, like the universe. My 6 year-old just told me, "that was good music!" He's right. Cheers.

ha!
What an honor to get a compliment from a the 6-year old child of an accomplished composer like yourself. He could have just compared it to your music and said...nah - not even close;). Thanks Clark!

Your music here evokes a feeling of a journey ... so does looking into the universe. I love those moments that you are talking about and that you perfectly captured in your crystal clear sound scapes. True, one does not have to go so far to feel the touch of vastnes and depth, it is rather a question of gettin oneself in tune with it ... something your music always helps to achieve. Very nice piece indeed!
Thnx

a transient moment
the perfect moment combines rhythm, music, thought, and a sense of accomplishment... all of which are present in this music. Tastefully done.

An irresistible transient
between light and dark, here and there, now and then, etc. Really beautiful mix of simple motif, delicate instrumentation and wonderful (oriental?) percussion and rhythms. A particularly nice piece, thank you.

The image above is fine piece of graphic design as well, with a striking image and, again, a delicate assymetric typographic arrangement. Well done.

light and dark
The percussion is mostly Indian style chimes and simple tabla. There is also a hang drum layer. Cool that you picked up on the artwork. Thanks!

wonderful
you are such an artist when it comes to creating an atmosphere of sound. you call this simple, and in some ways it really is, but where you've placed each simple beat and how you have each note fade in or out is such layered beauty. a soft wall of sound that you build up brick by brick and then just as gently take down again. Simply gorgeous - as is the photo/song art.

synchronicity
It's great to share any inspiration, especially through music. It is a funny coincidence! I've been looking up the night sky more frequently these days, with the autumn winds moving the clouds, creating these fascinating landscapes. I really like the conversations this challenge has brought forward - anything about the vastness and beauty of nature, or of inspired experiences within.

A Pari piece
is always a treat, and this is no exception. Expert layout of great sounds in time and space. Love it. All of the above says the rest better than I could...

Big thanks for doing a "last minute" entry in the SRC, sure makes it even better than it already was :-)

Take care,
Henke

I agree
This challenge was really super great... But all honor as far as I know goes to our own Drakonis. I might have encouraged it when I first heard of it, but that's all. I took for granted that this lovely piece was an entry for it (even if that space race tag was missing) but maybe I was mistaken. Either way, big thanks. /H

Masterful
I can hear that your inner explorations are continuing to open the depths of your already considerable creativity. I love the seamless match between expansiveness and intimacy that you convey so well here. The simplicity of the guitar line set against the other elements brings me both outward and inward at the same time (any space is space, right?). Mix and orchestration are spot on - nothing wasted, nothing out of place, everything pointing the listener to consider the subject you've chosen.

Thank you for making this downloadable and for the reminder that we are never short of ways to express wonder - it's just that not all of us are quite so articulate in describing it as you are.

Be well,
Doug

PS - your story has a lot of parallels to my own, from the inconceivable depths of intergalactic space (photographed with numb-hand guided cameras in winter) to the exploration of what experiencing is. Maybe that's part of the resonance with your compositions. Or maybe you just speak a truth that all of us can appreciate.

Terrific
This is really good. A sense of mystery in this and it could come right of from a movie (a little Thomas Newman-vibey). Great bass line and what an excellent mix. Is it you playing guitar?

thanks!
Surprised at the Thomas Newman comparison (I'm a big fan) but no, it's not me playing the guitar. I thought though that the harder you pull a string, the more delay you'll have - so the timing is organic for some added realism.

There's some energy in the groove but the chords and the melody line suggest contemplation & reflection. Might work well for a film score where a character was working on a problem. Complementary sound choices and wonderful production.

So clear like the skies above,
There is always a mystery to be solved when I look up into the night sky. Whats the magnitude of those stars and which ones burn the hottest. I grew up with having brothers that were into astronomy. It's great hobby to have access to.

Your music reflects that clarity of a clear winter night. The mix sounds great in my headphones. Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece.

echoey sound almost reminds me of Scarborough Fair at the beginning but with synth. Love that shimmering feel. Nice sweeping of the triangle type sound and all the glimmering sounds that seem to really fit in the piece. Love that Scarborough celtic theme. Love that type of inspiration!

You caught the wonder...
...of the night sky beautifully. This soundscape is delightful and enchanting, and it also has a feeling of being instructive, too, like the listener can learn something profound by gazing at the sky and imagining the eons that have passed with it looking just as it does today. Such peaceful, evocative music, and such a pleasure to hear.

Canopy of stars
Beautiful. I found your description quite moving. This reminds me of summer evenings lying on a grassy bank in the south of France after midnight swimming sessions. Every night, after working in a hot kitchen, we took the road down hill and scaled the large wall into the out door pool. After and exhausted, we would lye and view the vastness of the little lights above us. Thank you for this memory and for the ability you have to conjure up these memories with the power of your music. All your work is compelling, extremely well written and has an exceptional sound quality. For something you describe as simple, has a real complexity to it.

INSPIRED
It has been forever since I've been on this site. Life happens, but when you seek to live it, we're often led in directions we'd never imagine otherwise. I wanted you to know that I had downloaded this song and put it on my iPod some time ago. Recently I completed my first ultra marathon. Around mile 53, with darkness all around and only the solitary beam of my headlamp lighting my path, I forged ahead in a light rain, pushing my limits and putting one foot in front of the other. This composition came on, and it has become the soundtrack for the entire experience...the nuances in this piece match the emotional challenge, the physical struggle, and the spiritual battle I endured to complete my first 62 mile run. Thank you, P...thank you. Beautiful art that has become part of the fabric of my life.
