Corroded Lullaby (Spacerace Challenge)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
not much time to sit down and do a whole song (although I had high hopes). I ended up doing this lullaby for a child who dreams of space and the moon. 2 different things apparently. my daughter tells me that space is really far away, but the moon is "right there in the sky" and I love how she doesn't think of it as a celestial body at all (she also thinks it follows us home every night).

this is a lot of experimenting with effects on some very simple instruments. I had planned on expanding this and putting vocals over it, but maybe later. for now it's just a simple lullaby.

feeling drowsy daddy
Sweet piece
I think a lulliaby needs to be simple but yet melodic. I think this works very well.

Nighty night

Lovely!
Simple and very relaxing. Some vocals would be good, indeed.

first of all
I love the art work.... and the lulling melodic sounds of the keys..... the violin gives that winsome, yearning feel of sitting gazing at what's out there.... certainly a different take on this challenge.... enjoyed, cheers M

Charming! Since becoming a first grade teacher I think a lot about the moon. It's interesting to think were it not for the moon we might not be here. No axis to rotate on. No seasons. No tides. Life would be very different were it not for the moon.

lulls
gentle evening thoughts, but with a hint of futuristic metallic crispness, well-conveyed. nice to see another wordless space-lullaby offering, I don't feel so alone. The simple truth that the moon follows us as we walk never really leaves us as we grow up, we just complicate it a bit. Having a child returns us to those truths... thank you for the reminder!

I used to watch the moon
from my Dad's car and you couldn't tell me that it didn't follow us. Space is big; that's why it's called space. Sweet music about one of the spheres we know best. Thanks.

simplicity is always best, my daughter tells me the moon follows us in the sky, its great when they are this age, very lovely way you put this together!

Hi Michael....
I love this. It's just srying out for some words and singing. Love the artwork too. A talented artist (~Ethe) on Deviant Art.

There's a Lullaby Ambient CD on Earth Mantra that this reminds me of, but in a gentle music way, not similarity of music.

I do hope you regain your strength and can add to this beautiful piece.

You know your daughter is just right in what she says!! Adults just complicate stuff....

Take care.

Paul

Nice
the way it is, but if vocals are added it would have to be just the right thing. Ponder it further, perhaps a spoken word kind of thing? Such a delicate piece of music, I'd be interested to see what you would come up with to match it.
Thanks!

Lovely
Such a sweet little tune to put this year's challenge to rest. Love it.

And what a challenge, it's been! Almost 40 great and creative pieces done with incredible talent and diversity. Thanks for being a part of it.

Sleep well and happy (space) dreams,
Henke

P.S. Sounds like a lovely little daughter you have... A ray of sunshine it seems :-)

dreaming...
I REALLY like this lullaby. It's such a nice chord progression, which I've heard in a few songs before, but never done so sweetly, simply and peculiarly (a word? now it is). With the artwork I imagine a Wes Anderson movie for children. Come to think of it, that would be nice! Make sure he calls you for the soundtrack.

I think that if the Moon
does follow you home then your daughter should be allowed to keep it ! Restful and sleepy inducing....nice.

This is brilliant
That melody with lots of delay (with a sound hard to describe) in the background is very evocative. How did you do that?

I think it works perfect without vocals, just the way it is. More suggestive that way. Cool use of glitch beat too.

Charming
Cool glitchy bits under the music-box-like leads. Whatever effects you were experimenting with certainly work well here. I also think that the art selection is quite inspired.

A lovely listen before bedtime.

Beautiful
without vocals, but I think vocals would make this really good, if it's your songwriting, that is. It would give it the right mix of dark and sweet...and now I'm thinking of chocolate...

I'm blank after listening this corroded beauty. I got fixated in nothing and my mind went grey. A perfect infinite loop lullaby.
