Description
Variations on a Theme Part 3

In this final variation on the theme from Kimono Dragon, I ran the MIDI file through the software "paulstretch" (stretched x 3), and used the result as a backbone throughout; two "straight" renditions, played by an English horn and then a French horn, accompanied by three tracks of percussion loops (HipHop Beat, Club Dance Beat, and Electronic Drum Beat) and another original track by me. The first sound you hear is the stretched file, and the second is the highly effected guitar track by me.

The wonderful image was created for an Uruguyan Spaghetti Western film festival.

Enjoy! ;-)

If you're interested, Variations on a Theme Part 1 is Kimono Dragon, and Part 2 is Canon for Timpani which you can hear by clicking either link.

Wow ... you are quite prolific these days. This is very cool. Love the beat behind all your ethereal textures and sounds. Real nice listen!

Thanks Stan
Actually this was done almost a year ago, but yes, tunes-r-us lately ;-) I think 5 in a month, and I'd like to think at least ONE of them is good.
I know my description sounds a little offhand but the piece is just the result of some experimental thoughts. You know, "what would it sound like if I ..." and I was trying for three different "sounds" in my three variations. Thanks for listening, and enjoying.

Stretccccched File?
your getting too technical for me Richard but the end product is haunting and those flutters of percussion and beats, break it up nicely and give a kind of 'ethereal' atmosphere..... very cinematic, regards M

Yeeeeesssssss!
Just like it was rubber. You can hear it (almost like a deep vocal synth) at about 2:00. It was the point of this particular variation, or as I said above, the backbone on which I hung the flutters. Thanks Mo.

I wouldn't
think Western, at first.
Celebrational. Maybe, A line of Buddhist monks in the mountains of Tibet, chanting. Cool. Very cool. Thanks.

Different strokes
Something said Western to me so off I went. My chanting tune is almost finished. Thanks yourself.

Eat your heart out Ennio!
(An expression meaning, I suppose, consume yourself with jealousy, Ennio. Just in case anyone thought I was a little cannibalistic -)
Anyway, I'm sure you were just being kind. Besides, I forgot the whistling.

I wonder if
Spaghetti Carbonara on toast could be considered a spaghetti western?
I like spaghetti too, Harald: glad you enjoyed this little taste ;-)

across the tundra.... oh wait ,,, the Llano Estecado, then. dig the guitar effects here.... chasing the fade
richard13 said 553 days ago (November 18th, 2011)
Llano Estecado
Is that in Uruguay? If so, don't chase that fade all the way to South America: some of us need you here ;-)

Very nice track.....
Some timing things going on, that make my metronome brain
go nuts....
But over all it a good project......

I am so glad you enjoyed this Tony
but you have to get over this strict timing hangup you seem to have. Let go; go with the flow; let it all hang out (wait, that's not right).
Oh well, I'm happy you enjoyed it in spite of your metronome brain.

What? Ambient heaven, if there is such a place, this would be on the list. Eerie but cool.

I'm not sure it would be the themesong
of an Ambient Heaven, but I'm happy you think it would be on the list. Thanks Steve.

You know....
....I've always been more of a pop song person in the traditional Beatles-oriented fashion, but I have to say, I'm really enjoying these sound textures -
particularly for the morning. : )

Thanks for the visit Eric
I don't think I have any Beatle-type pop songs but it's always good to expand your listening horizons (heaven knows I have since I joined ;-)
I DO have a couple of "songs" here but I don't think they are either pop or Beatle-y. Glad you enjoyed my little experiment.

Very creative and out of the box
Relating Hip-hop to say a Clint Eastwood western does stretch the mind a little. Very cool and laid back vibe you have going. The beat works really well and makes the slowly evolving bed take on a whole new character.

Good one!
Doug
