You Never Think You're Gonna Get Old

Description
I wrote, recorded, performed and arranged this entire track on Garageband For iPhone - which is pretty damn amazing despite it's limitations. I did some in the driveway, some of it at work, some sitting on the toilet (!) and the last bit I did at my elderly parents house. The vocals are using the included telephone effect - I figured it was appropriate. You'll hear my father's voice at the end. Oh, that's a photo of him up above.

Lyrics
You never think you're gonna get old
Then one day you find it's too late for you
But life moves too fast for second thoughts
So don't hesitate or all is lost for you

So that's what PDA stands for!
It IS amazing, and even more so is that THIS senior citizen likes to make music on one of these new-fangled devices too ;-)
As an experiment, this is cool Eric. As a song, it's cool too: the message is a little late for me but there's lots of youngsters out there.

Mobile talent...
An experiment that worked out very well. I agree, to create a song of this quality on a mobile phone is amazing. Glad I didn't hear external sound effects in some locations... :-) Good to bring your dad in, too. Enjoyed, Peter.

Thanks, Peter
I look forward to more sequencing and iPhone performing between "movements". ; p
But seriously, GB for iPhone really allows you to take advantage of what little down-time you might have. For instance, I'm sitting in a hospital waiting room as I type. Maybe I'll create some Muzak while I wait. ; p

Many read,
others write while otherwise occupied. You make music. I loved the melody. The sound is unique. Dad is a natural. Thanks.

Thanks Char,
Unfortunately, my father passed away in my arms yesterday, so this tune has taken on special meaning for me. Didn't think it'd be so soon. : (

I'm so sorry.
So, it is wonderful to have his voice here. He will be remembered fondly, with love.

Impressive work
A good song regardless of the recording method.

Not many lyrics but the ones you have are both depressing and uplifting (which is a pretty neat achievement)

I was just about to post when I thought I'd read what others have said and I saw your response to Char and I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. That adds such a poignancy to this song.

Cheers

Dick

Thanks DW
Garagebands for iPhone is impressive, but I do feel like it's cheating a bit because I'm a player. But it's so convenient for carving out more time for music and will make a great scratchpad or starting point for more involved work - assuming I can find the time for more involved work. ; 0

Thanks so much for your condolences.

Gonna Get Old
Congratulations on this - for the technical aspects and, more importantly for the music and the message. Condolences re your father - it is a very difficult time for the family.

I've been writing music (badly, I might add) for three decades but I never recorded most of it - mostly because of laziness. But the technology makes it a lot easier now so I can enjoy the process if not the result! I'm looking to get some feedback... [see more]
