Description
Johan Helmich Roman
(1694 - 1758)

In Swedish music history, the importance of Johan Helmich Roman cannot be overestimated. Being the first native Swedish composer of international importance, conductor of the Royal Orchestra, violinist and oboist, concert organiser, music teacher, theorist and linguist, he was the man who, through thirty years of hard work (1721–1751), laid the foundation of modern musical life in Sweden.

*Recorded with the Miroslav Brass Ensemble

Not even
many people in Sweden know of him, not even musicians. A little strange but that is so.

Thank you, Scotty
for posting such a nice piece of old Swedish music, made with your incredible talent for this kind of thing together with the awesome sound of Miroslav.

Maybe Roman isn't very well known in Sweden, but many people would probably recognize (the first bars of) his masterpiece, the "Drottningholm Music" or "Music for a Royal Wedding". Here is the Wikipedia entry in English for anyone who would like to read a little more: Johan_Helmich_Roman

Thanks again and take care,
Henke

Such a calming
and beautiful work Scotty. I only remote knew of Roman - hearing an occasional piece of his on the radio into work.

He may not be greater but he's actually a more graceful composer than Bach. A perfectly blended performance and a fitting video as well.
Cheers,
Charlie

Thank you Scotty

sumptuous
Meticulously rendered... gorgeous dynamics and attention to detail, brass samples are always so tricky to tame. You chose a great piece of music and created a great recording of it. Miroslav goes up another notch on my "want to buy" list.

New to me.
Thanks for this introduction to J H Roman. I had not heard (or even heard OF) Swedish music from this period.

Masterly realization, too. You make me consider adding instrumental ensembles to my arsenal after I get the hang of using Logic.
