Description:
I was intrigued by this song of alanfrasers when he first posted it and essentially begged him to let me have a try at singing it. So here it is.

Alan wrote the song and lyrics and created the music bed. I mixed my vocal with the MP3 track he provided.

Cool voice! It is a good contrast to ronnielong's vocal
version.

Thanks, Mimi. I liked Ronnie's version too. I heard the vocal a little differently and just wanted to give it a shot.

Classic. &mdash 02/09/05 - 08:28:58 AM
Major flash back to "Eyes of a stranger" by queensryche.
Nice classic metal, with a good solo, but shouldnt the solo
be harder and more dominant?? The vocals are perfect,
harsh, breathy and commanding.

Classic. &mdash 02/09/05 - 09:01:59 AM
Hey Arch- thanks for the compliment. I didn't have any control over the music bed, that was provided by alan as an mp3. I pretty much left that alone and just mixed my vocal in. Glad you liked it!

Wow &mdash 02/09/05 - 09:23:15 AM
You have a great voice.
I would have gone one step further and tweaked them
with a couple of effects to really mix them in, a touch of
distortion would perhaps give it a little better mix in this
type of sing. However, this is a good strong vocal
addition.. and you sing this very very well..

Thanks SGF! I admit I was trying to keep the effects of the vocal to a minimum and never even considered distortion on a voice track. I'll try it tonight.

Vocal adds new... &mdash 02/09/05 - 09:49:34 AM

Edge to this song. You bring a lot of feeling into this performance that enhances the overall song. Both versions I like. I found in the first one I was more drawn to and aware of the instrumentals. In this version your vocal interpretation captured my attention. Great performance here.

Thanks, Jack. I really wanted to make it sound different from the other version. As always I appreciate your comments...glad you liked!

major improvement &mdash 02/09/05 - 01:33:08 PM
Your vocals are a trillion times better than the originals. You should add some screamin' heavy metal harmony vocals to it. Blow the roof off.

major improvement &mdash 02/10/05 - 05:18:49 AM
Thanks, Peter. A trillion is an awfully big number, though :) I'll have to see if I
can dig down deep and find those screamin' harmonies! Great idea!

Great interpretation &mdash 02/09/05 - 02:20:20 PM
... of this piece in the excellent vocals!

I'm glad you decided to do this!
Now, get busy and post some more songs! ;)

wow...that's the first time I've ever been compared to Bruce Dickinson. Very
cool. Thanks for the listen!

I agree with Pie &mdash 02/09/05 - 04:53:28 PM
It does have an Iron Maiden sound to the vocal. You've got
guts
to post a version after two people before you already have
and I think you managed to add something to this version.
Nice job and Alan you started it all.

Thanks Z. I was going to wait but decided the interpretation was different enough. Now I need to finish some of my own.

Nice &mdash 02/09/05 - 08:35:08 PM
job on the vocals you do have a nice 80's metals vocal
style and the comparison to Bruce is valid. The only thing I
didn't like was the vibrato used on the last word of each
verse it was over exaggerated. Other than than you did an
outstanding job.

Wow! &mdash 02/09/05 - 10:57:19 PM
I didn't know you had uploaded the tune! I'd said your
voice sounded too sweet but it sounds nastier here and I
do like that. I still think you ham it up a bit too much but
your voice is strong and I suspect you can do pretty much
whatever you want with it. Thanks for doing this. It feels
pretty cool that you'd even want to.

P.S. I didn't rate it as it would be like partially rating myself and that wouldn't
be right. Thanks again.

I tweaked the settings on the vocal track using more reverb, slight echo and
compression and it did come out a little darker than the bare track. I know
what you mean about "hamming it up"... in that I delivered it more like a rock
opera piece than a heavy metal song. At least that what I thought when I read
Hacked to Pieces' comment.

Thanks for letting me put my spin on this song. Keep Rockin'!

I don't know your politics but my next one is a political metaphor and it's
savage. I don't know if I'll name Bush specifically but it has to do with
drinking the blood of dead virgins to make your skin stay young-looking.
This is based on historical precedent and that's what makes the metaphor.
Dunno if you're up for something like that as it's got to be hard-core metal,
rock-opera definitely won't do it. I want to rip the skin off that sick bastard's
bones. Anyway, think about it. Maybe a three-way collab with you and
Ronnielong?? Anything's possible.

That voice of Yours is GREAT! &mdash 02/10/05 - 10:11:37 AM
Not to mention you have complete command of it.
Excellent job on this. It is exciting to think of the different
genres you're vocal ability will afford in future projects. I
look forward to hearing more. Super work!

HA! &mdash 02/10/05 - 02:03:47 PM
Geeezzz how many times is this tune gonna be posted?!!
Oh well...not bad man....like Alan had mentioned- it was a
little "cheesy" at times....almost too over the top in some
places. But to each his own, right? Nice voice man, but I
just don't dig the 80's metal opera thing...

However- its still better than my version!!
hahahahahahaha...

and Oddly enough, I Am an Iron Maiden fan.... I just
wanted to stay far far away from that sound on this
tune...but it fits for some reason...

Keep postin'!! :)

HA! &mdash 02/10/05 - 02:14:22 PM
I would have waited longer to post it but patience has never been my strong suit. Oddly enough I never listened to Iron Maiden that much back the day. Thanks for the listen and the feedback.

So I guess my plan to record this in eight different languages probably won't fly, huh? :)

A little too loud &mdash 02/14/05 - 05:00:23 AM
Greaat voice! Though it could be mixed down a little
lower, they're overwhelming the music bed. I agree with
slimmie, maybe a little distortion would add an extra
dimension to your voice.

A little too loud &mdash 02/15/05 - 06:22:44 PM
Thanks Iseae! I actually mixed this down from where I originally had it. As the
song had already been posted a couple of times I did want to accentuate what
I was doing (singing only) so the vocals were left up intentionally. I really
appreciate you taking the time to comment!!

Thanks for listening... I liked the guitar part as well. It's actually another MacJammer, alanfraser. I believe he used a strat on this.

I'm impressed with your pipes. you've got that
prog-band vocal style down.

(The musical bed you've got to work with was
inspiring, I can tell!)

Cool- thanks for the comment. I think Ronnie pulled all his old songs in a
Guinness induced haze one day. They're slowly reappearing.
