Hi Mark - what a pleasure and thrill to hear this from you today! i'm always so amazed at the mastery you have on that guitar, and the sheer elegance of your playing. you make something i know is VERY difficult sound downright easy, like "hey, ANYBODY could do this" - HA!! sometimes i can't believe i get to interact with people in the world with this kind of talent. thanks for making my day sir!

Wonderful performance and the recording is lovely. I feel like I'm by the bar in the upscale jazz club you're performing in!

I know this one!
This was written by Fats, right?! I just love this composition! Mark you always pick just the right thing to lend your incredible talents to--I don't believe I've heard anyone perform this outside of Mr. Waller and Mr. Reinhardt. To say your playing here is superb would be an egregious understatement--you've amazed me and everyone else once again. Thanks so much and thank you for allowing a download! Michael

get over to ziti's
... or get over here, although I suspect Ziti's place may be closer... Either way, I always love your recordings, and here's hoping you'll do plenty more, even if on an iPod. This particular recording has a live, club feel.

Are you familiar with the playing of Ed Bickert? He is one of the most awesome jazz guitarists I ever heard, and when I was a young man aspiring to be a jazz guitarist I would go listen to him as often as I could in Toronto. Your playing is comparable to his... one of the things i always dug about Ed's playing was his chord voicings, kind of piano like, and that's what I'm hearing here too.

Here's a link to a random Bickert performance on YouTube, but there are many others:

http://youtu.be/xY-K00o-1BE

Fantastic track, tastefully and impeccably played, as always.

Who is the guitarist in the photo, playing what appears to be a Bb7?

Ed
Bickert is a genius of the guitar, the stuff he did with Paul Desmond is incredible. Never in my wildest dreams will I ever come close to him.I have been listening to him for a long time, maybe stole a few of his chord voicings. Never got to see him live, that must have been amazing! Unfortunately I think he has quit playing. Thanks for the comment.

Well, first off...
...weren't you going to get a Mac? Or a MacBook? Or did that go off to college with someone?

Let's see. I could mail you a baby Tascam. Although, seriously, you're getting some pretty neat recorded sound out of the iPod. What app are you using? And do you still have a POD? Or just come over here and I'll be your engineer.

Who IS playing the bass?

I love the interaction between the guitar and the bass throughout this, Mark. Your own playing is intelligent, tight but loose, with lots of life in it.
Ibstrat said 2113 days ago (December 12th, 2011)
Thanks
Ed. It's not an app, just recorded on "Voicemail" on my ipod. I did get garage band for my ipod touch, maybe I can get that to work.

I love the lines you play - and the way you add the chordal touches here and there to give it depth. The bass is exceptional - life and movement throughout. I'm thinking of Howard Alden and Jack Lesberg on their "No Amps Allowed" outing as I listen to this - one of my favourite CDs. Outstanding - thanks for the download!

Mark, you would sound great recorded on a stone tablet. Lovely duet here with some fantastic jazz tone and mood development. The iPod did a great job of recording the bass. Quite surprised at the quality. Much enjoyed. Take care, Peter.

Fab duet
OK, so Ziti, Ed and I all want to know who is playing bass!!!? Excellent.

Man, who wd've thought that little blue mic on an ipod could capture this. I guess the old adage that great performances transcend recording technique holds true here. It even gives it a kind of era-inducing old school vibe, captured in 1948 at some club in Jersey.

Fab track. Thanks for sharing this. But... WHO IS PLAYING BASS? And does he do collabs? I'd LOVE to get his number!

Dynamic Duo
Wow Mark, you really dance on that fretboard. Love the swing you've got going, and you and the bassist play like a man with 4 arms that just swallowed a crate of talent pills.

Thanks for the download sir. This goes into my jazz favourites.

Keep well,
Doug

Thank you :)
I think the recording is charming. For me it adds a natural personal sounding experience.

Your playing is just lovely. We have a local place called Steamers that we sometimes go and this would fit in perfectly. I really don't know much about Jazz especially the old school classics, but when you can sit down and enjoy good music like this, that's all that matters.

Sorry about
your technical difficulties. So glad you had something to record with. So mellow. Perfect mix of guitar and bass with the intimacy of a small after hours club where two guys who've known each other for ages are just hanging out and jamming. Thanks.

Great!
I've always loved this tune; I'd like to record it as well someday. My favorite recordings of JBWaltz are Fats Waller's on Hammond organ from the early 40's and Joe Pass from the album 'My Song' (And I really dug your version) You should try to re-record it, but sometimes the best takes are done on the fly with a basic setup.
