Lyrics
VERSE ONE
Strangers and their stories came and left
As the train rocked her slowly through the night
Thoughts of the City and all she’d seen in magazines
Made her think (all) about her wasted life
VERSE TWO
She’d worked long hours on the factory line
Teenage years counting dollars and saving dimes
Her family had little but shared with her what they had
So she could spread her wings and fly
CHORUS
Her second hand life packed in a second hand case
As her hometown faded like a memory.... .....far away
This was her time, she was ready to say goodbye
Goodbye (to her life on) Tobacco Road
BRIDGE
Tobacco Road; She's leaving the only home she's ever known
Tobacco Road; It's still her home (always be her home
But to live her dreams, she knew she'd have to go
VERSE THREE
She watched the big city lights grow brighter
Sunday clothes out of place but one day they’d be designer
What a feeling for a Country girl full of dreams and hopes
Who took the leap of faith leaving Tobacco Road
VERSE FOUR
The Country girl vanished as she stepped off the train
And she felt strong and excited for the very first time
It wouldn’t be long till she’d have a job, pay rent
A man to love her, wouldn’t look back, no regrets
CHORUS
Her second hand life packed in a second hand case
As her hometown faded like a memory......... far away
This was her time, she was ready to say goodbye

Great song. I felt I needed a rose in my mouth and be dancing around the room with my arms in the air to listen properly. Love all the instrumentation - that acoustic guitar is a knockout! Heartfelt and powerful vocal. I hope the woman in the song finds what she wants in the city - sometimes those dreams can come unstuck. Great mix and production. Congratulations to all involved!
