Why do you need to ask?

Description
Having recently got hold of a bass guitar and ukulele I tried to work them into a song based around the chord sequence C Ddim Am Fm G C Dm7 F G. I've been fooling around with these chords on acoustic guitar for a while having heard the C to Ddim change on an old Ralph Mctell song.

Lyrics
Why do you need to ask
If you’re the one for me
When self doubt fills your mind
It leaves me wondering why
That you can’t see the light in my eyes
Was lit by you and it burns for you

Because you babe only you babe
Are the one for me
So listen to me I’ll tell you no lies
No one can ever compare
Because you babe only you babe
Are the one for me

So why do you need to ask
If I will stay with you
My life’s choice is clear to me
It’s clear for all to see
So why can’t you open your eyes
And see what you mean to me

Because you babe only you babe
Are the one for me

Chords
F/C C F/C G (X4)
C Ddim Am Fm G
C Dm7 F G
C G F G
C Dm7 F G
Etc…

Your voice

Hi Gadzooks
Thanks for listening and leaving a comment. The drums and piano were indeed samples (I don't have any drums or a piano and if I did I wouldn't have a clue what to do with them!).
All the best

Hi Mark
Thanks for taking the the time to listen and the supportive comment. I do have all the Beatles/Lennon back catalogue and a fair bit of Donovan too and I'm easily influenced!
best wishes

Gentle lyrics delivered in a genuine way. Nice harmonies and interesting chord progression. I like the way you build the tune and especially like the entry of the strat! Much enjoyed.

Thanks Philip
I think this is the most instruments I've tried to force into a recording and spent a lot of time messing around with how to buid them up so I'm glad you like that element. Also the first time I've ever recorded something with Fm in it! I liked the slight melancholy it gives which is cheered up by going to G major next.
All the best

Thanks
for listening. It was for my wife and I think she likes it despite the spare bedroom being full of guitar stands and mic booms etc.

Floating,
effortless enjoyment, listening to this!

Really well put together and builds nicely.

It sounds like the romance is a cert from the tone of the song. There is no fear in it, and i am glad at the beginning of the year to hear a thing like that! It is dark and cold enough already!

Much enjoyed. Thank you,

Marc

The romance was a cert and still is after nearly 10 years and I think she's starting to get the message!

Love playing acoustic guitar especially in open tunings (CFCFCF being my favourite). Every so often I’ll have a go with my electric guitar and even more rarely try to sing. Collaborations: Glen Byre (Celtic) with Seathatch who really enhance... [see more]
