Description
Another cheerful ditty from the pen of Mr Richard Marris, written after a flight on one of the British economy airlines.
This is another song that has taken a couple of years and has gone through various styles and instrumentation from just me and an acoustic to full on thrash. Somehow we got caught caught up in the 80s and gated snares then introduced a touch of REM and maybe The Byrds.
Richard plays bass and a Tanglewood electric 12 string through a George Dennis Blue combo close miked with an AKG condenser.
I sang and buggered about with the sound. I'm not sure I have the 12 string parts balanced as well as they could be but I can't tell anymore. I realised the vocal clips a few times but I have a stinking cold and don't know how long it'll be before I can redo the vox.
It's a lot different to Mrs Lollipop ;)
BTW I believe you chaps over the pond may not know what scratch cards are. They are lottery cards where you scratch the card to reveal numbers or symbols that normally tell you that you've just thrown your money away and you would have been better off spending it in the bar.
Fly me © R Marris 2011
Pretty hostess on the plane
Selling scratch cards nobody wants to buy
Came all the way from Poland
Thought it might be glamorous to fly
And I am going for nothing
To a place I don't need to be
And I don't want to know about scratch cards
And I'm thinking she'd agree
But I want to be rich
Just like you
But if I ever get there
Here's what I hope I'd do
I'd buy a big house
I'd sit by the pool
And I wouldn't chase another pound
If it made a pretty girl feel like a fool
But money keeps on moving
And profit will find a way
And someone wil use the riches I spend
To ruin someone else's day
But I like money
Just like you
And going against the flow
Is very hard to do
Fly me
Take me
Anywhere but here
Take me out of this pointless misery
So I'll spend all my money
And I'll make the world go round
And I'll fly where I don't need to be
And I'll chase that extra pound
So sit there in your big house
And dream your greedy dreams
Be thankful there are losers like me
Too lazy to spoil your pointless schemes
So sell your scratch cards
Pester people on the phone
Fly those miles
Paint on those smiles
At least you're not alone

Bob Rodgers
wonderful song Dick, you are very prolific at the moment, so many good songs.
Great lyrics and vocals with nice guitar tones on this one, love the harmonies.
Very much enjoyed.
