Description

Here's the latest from my duo, Downer Cow. On this track I used the trial version of Ozone 5 Advanced (it's actually the full version, and they give it to you for 10 days!), and overall I'm impressed with the results. There is definitely a learning curve (which is reflected in this track), but with more time I feel I can improve my sound dramatically. Unfortunately, the price tag is rather hefty, so I'll be saving my pennies for awhile.

As for the song itself, we again stick to our unique brand of understated melancholia. In real life we are upbeat and positive, but we both enjoy indulging in the theatre of depression and sorrow when writing music. I guess it's a sort of therapy, really.

Anyhow, hope you enjoy this, but please don't take it all too seriously.

	Mastering This sounds very nice. You haven't squashed the dynamics to death and there's a lot of contrast between sounds. If Ozone is too expensive, why not explore the tools in Logic? You have a multiband compressor, linear phase EQ, several great reverbs.... It'll be a while before you run into their limitations. Check out my latest song called Fourth Candle

	Thanks I appreciate your comments. You are absolutely correct, I have a long way to go to master the tools in Logic. In fact, I'm confident I could achieve similar results with Logic, but to me it's more difficult and time consuming than Ozone was to use. Pink Wave Floyd?
This is wild... the melody and harmonies have this "Animals" feel, but with sparkly trance-like arpeggios. Nuclear chicken's a great singer too. Love that stretch-echo at 4:21. The fade-out seemed a little naked, I was hankering for a little more taste of Chicken sprinkled here and there after 5:18? Crystal clear stuff, glad you figured out the mixdown problem, this is delicious!

	Thanks I'll let her know you enjoyed her performance. Truth be told, she had a horse accident halfway through tracking her vocals. Fantastic mix!
I love the subtleties in the sound - neat panning and a real attention to detail. Extra clean/clear with lots of light and shade - tons of tidy punch from the bottom end. Ozone 3 works for me - too tight to upgrade, but I should really have a look at 5 I suppose. Fantastic vocal - just love the whole thing really.

	It's fun to look around the corner of this song By that I mean that it always has some surprise in the production around each corner. At one point is stops and hits the listener over the head. 	Party If there's any question about using Ozone 5 for a clean punchy mix, you can put that to rest. The whole production is brilliant guys. A little Euro synth action to keep things lively - this one really shines. Vox is spot on, bass just the right amount of growl for this style. Take a well earned bow, both of you. Crisp and clear, the layering in this mix is textbook example material. Love that low driving synth/drum combo with the arpeggiated leads. NC has a great voice - she fills my head and makes the hair on the back on my neck stand up. Brilliant tune Jason. I hope your vocalist has made a full recovery by now from her fall.
