Description:
This song is about losing someone in one way or another. It feels like the world should stop, but it doesn't.

Lyrics:
what happened to their faces
though you try you couldn't replace this sound
it goes on without you

we left here for the races
to fill the empty spaces in time
it goes on without you

you look just like a picture
of me, on a good day we'll switch our clothes
and hope nobody sees

and all those people are leaving
and none of them could believe in me
going on without you

so i'll wait up past midnight
for the stars and moon to lose their light
and i'll hide in the dark
until i feel alright

i'm holding out for a spaceship
to fix this world or replace it with a new one
that goes on without you

i'm waiting here for some rain
to wash this place but it still looks the same
as yesterday without you

so i'll wait up past midnight
for the stars and moon to lose their light
and i'll hide in the dark
until i feel alright

and i got word they're gone
how did they go
and are they unharmed
and are they really gone
are they really gone
i'll keep holding on

you look like someone i know
that left here some time ago
and it went on without you

utterly fantastic &mdash 02/12/05 - 01:59:45 AM
Really great song writing. The lyrics, the melodies, the arrangement, all wonderful. It builds nicely without going over the top. The only thing that sounds like it could use some adjusting is the EQ of the vocals; it sounds like it needs perhaps more mid and a little less bass. I love the violin. I'm downloading this one.

Thanks for the kind words and advice. I'm definitely still learning how to mix and work with EQ. I appreciate the suggestion.

Superior song &mdash 02/12/05 - 08:39:50 AM
A very well written song, especially for this category. I
think you also have a nice voice. So overall I liked it. Nit-
picking: I didn't like the background sound that begins at
the start of the song and continues all the way through. I
agree the vocals could use some brightening up in the eq.
The violin was so beautiful I wanted to hear more of it.

Superior song &mdash 02/12/05 - 06:03:06 PM
Thanks. When I first thought up the song, I "tested" it out on a little digital voice recorder and the quality was so bad that each strum of the guitar made this washed-out swishing sound. I just couldn't get it out of my head that it belonged to the song. I think most people won't like it, but for me it is as much a part of the song as the guitar. Hopefully it's not too distracting. Thanks for the suggestions.

Kind of Mixed &mdash 02/12/05 - 06:11:38 PM
I didn't like the guitar much as the riff got kind of
tiresome but your singing voice is great and the violin was
very nice as well. There was some odd discordancy at
times and I'm not sure what that was about. I was
listening to your voice for the melody and feel and didn't
really get into the literal content of the lyrics much so I
have no comment there.

nice stuff &mdash 02/13/05 - 10:52:08 AM
Great heartbreak soul voicing.

Wow, love that 200 year old VIOLIN
That violin goes in very well the the music.

I have to go, would like to say more.

touching &mdash 02/13/05 - 03:45:32 PM
At the intro the swishing sound was a strange surprise, but I really liked it throughout. It was as if the swishing was driving you forward (like being swept away in the ocean). Melody and violin is beautiful, and your voice is so perfect on this song. Loved it.

Emotive, really well done &mdash 02/14/05 - 07:20:44 AM
Understated, emotive use of violin, and I like the way the
drums creep in at its entrance. It is a slow build that is
well done. (I'd love to have the lyrics posted, tho.) With a
piece like this, you don't want too much variation, to
capture the sense of loss, and and I think you hit it just
right. Great use of your snare, altho at the very end becuz
you fade it instead of stop it, it sounds like a loop. Very
good track.

Timeless lyricism &mdash 02/14/05 - 08:46:48 AM
Excellent songwriting and delivery. Love the gradual
buildup to the violin soliloquy. That Ludwig snare is well
placed. Your voice is smooth and plaintive. The ending at
first seemed abrupt, then I realized it is symbolic of the
sudden snatching away of a life.

Great words &mdash 02/14/05 - 11:40:03 AM
...I'm holding out for a spaceship/To fix this world or
replace it/ With a new one that goes on without you...

That's genius. I loved it.

Sends my soul &mdash 02/14/05 - 04:50:43 PM
to a place of sadness, a place beyond words, a place at
times only music can express. The heartfelt message and
pulse accomplishes just that. The violin is perfect. I think
the voice is mixed just right for this track....too bright and
the tone of sadness dissapears, too muffled will not get
the message across. Just my opinion but I'd leave it.

You've captured the essence with masterful writing.
Please post the lyrics. Excellent work.

tear into my skin &mdash 02/15/05 - 02:06:35 PM
this is a great track and i hate to say anything against it. just that when the thing really gets going the snare seemed to need a little more, i wanted it to tear into my skin a little more. maybe that's because it is such a good song, though? such a good track.

It's an ongoing nightmare... &mdash 02/16/05 - 06:38:08 AM
to miss people close to you. This is a very heartfelt song. I
didn't mind the swishing. I actually kinda like it. What I felt
the song needed though was for you to really cut loose
vocally toward the end. You kinda did...but it only felt
about half way. I'd suggest really belting it out at the end
almost screaming. Great song...thx 4 sharing.

poignant and haunting &mdash 02/16/05 - 12:15:10 PM
You created a truly poignant, yearning atmosphere on this
track. The rhythmic repetition and chord structure
brought on a very meditative, longing feeling -- almost
like being in a trance.

Your song art was extremely well-chosen. I don't whether
or not seeing it the instant before listening to the tune
suggested the solitude, the loneliness, the foggy day -- or
whether I would have gotten that from just hearing the
music -- but in any case, it all fit together so well.

Your vocals were well-sung and very expressive.

The violin was a wonderful touch. Not too much vibrato,
which added to the plaintive mood nicely.

I like the way you gradually added the percussion and
built up the intensity of the "pulse" as the song drew to its
close.

I would have liked to hear a slightly longer, more drawn-
out final note. But this is truly a heart-felt, well produced
and performed track.

To Cameron and everyone else who posted, I just wanted to thank you for your encouragement, suggestions and kind words. I wish I had time to respond to everyone, but my schedule is tight until the semester ends. Thank you for voting and commenting. I appreciate it. It's nice to know that so many people felt some form of emotional movement when listening to this song. And I love that people are taking the mood/lyrics and applying them to their own situations and experiences. Thanks.

Violin and indie rock! &mdash 02/16/05 - 05:26:44 PM
This tune really took a giant leap forward when I heard
that fiddle start. I love the brush snare sound. I actually
love all the instrumentation: nice and simple, and a nice
build. The only negative criticism I have is that the lyrics
are not as strong as the rest of the piece.

Perfect - Job done &mdash 02/18/05 - 05:52:02 PM
Guess I'll have to end my relationship and get hurt to
write something that good. There's no gaurantees
though...

Excellent &mdash 02/24/05 - 04:03:37 AM
Your voice is really special. I would love to hear you singing higher notes & letting go.

This song can really be lifted to a new level with a stronger rush music near the end.

Cheers
