Guitars on the Boulevard (with PeterB7858)

Description
This also started with a set of chords, with some sort of melody emerging as I played over them. I then asked Peter Bowen (PeterB7858) to add another guitar line. I am on the left, he is on the right with the distinctive tone of his G&L guitar. Peter then mixed the track, although as an after-thought I added the synth line just to ground it a bit. Basically, just the two of us having fun jamming.

Hope you like it!

Nice production Peter!
Very crisp and clean sound - and some lovely playing which sounds so much like you two are in the same room.
Very enjoyable.
What happened to your trip to Tuross Philip? Or is it in the future still?
Terrific post.
Cheers from "up north",
Neil

Smooth
THanks, Chris. The guitars are quite different - I was using an Ibanez AS 200 and Peter was using his new G&L ASAT classic. Both very nice, but different! Thanks for stopping by!

Great piece
And I agree with rok41 on the contrapuntal motion / conreasting motion of the two guitars.

Definitely goes on the Ipod ;)

Oh, so smooth
and delicious sounding. It reminds me, just a little, of a J.J. Cale instrumental tune (can't think which). This is really beautiful. Thanks for sharing, I helped myself.

J.J. Cale
I'll certainly take any comparison to J.J. Cale - the tone he gets and the simple but mightily effective and interesting lines he plays have always been a favourite. Thanks for listening, Richard.

How on earth do you
get the clarity and tone to stick to the recording ....I have great problems with that ....I am sat here nodding in total enjyment ....very mature playing and a delightful listen ...Top notch

Clarity
Thanks for the positive comments, Chris. I think the clarity is partly from getting better at controlling levels when recording, but then Peter is becoming very good with Ozone, which brightens the mix considerably. I appreciate your comments on the playing! Thanks for stopping by.

Guitars on the Boulevard
Hey guys, this is beautiful, smooth, and love the crystal clear guitars. I'm digging' the leads on each side that weave together very comfortably. The acoustic minor chordal rhythm and strings are a nice backdrop. Drums sit well in the mix. Excellent!

Hi Stan!
Glad you liked it all, Stan. I appreciate your comments on the playing and noticing what's going on behind it - the chords started with that standard Am/Am+7/Am7/Am6 progression and just sort of evolved from there! Thanks again! Philip

Along for the ride...
Thanks for having me along for the ride, Philip. I think it has turned out pretty well, considering we were just jamming and having some fun. I like the addition of the synth strings, adds a sense of depth. Look forward to the next collab! Talk soon, Peter.

Hi Johannes!
Glad you liked what we did - thanks for listening! The mike is a Blue Yeti. I'm very happy with it. I also have an LE Baggs undersaddle pickup on the acoustic which I like in some contexts (it's the one I used to play some slide and lead on Franciscus Henri's latest MacJams song, which is at http://www.macjams.com/song/71718 if you're interested). I guess there are times when playing at the same time helps, as you can feed off each other; but there are times when having the first person's part complete to work from (as Peter had on this one) gives greater freedom to search for what works? Thanks for the comments on the production - Peter's mixing and mastering efforts paid off!

Like the clean tones, nice mix of acoustic and electric. Tones on the G&L are sweet. Just a nice easy listening jam. Both guitars compliment eachother nicely. The mix is working well too, the placement of the instruments....well done guys!

Hi Mark. We do spend a bit of time in the same room, but for this one Peter took the backing and my guitar/melody track to play over the top. I do think that the different sounds of the guitars work well together - we were happy with the result! Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.

Guitars on the boulevard
I'll be honest, you had me at "Guitars" when I read the title. But a very engaging piece of music. Some nice guitar vibratos and the two panned playing off each other works really well. I hadn't actually noticed the synth part till I read that and that's the best compliment I can give it. It supports well without being intrusive. There are some great guitar lines in there and nice to see things steering clear of the dreaded pentatonic - there are some great left turns in melody that genuinely make you go "whoa! where did that come from". Thanks for posting here. Really enjoyed.

Philip,
Great guitar tones. What gear and software are you using?
Check out my latest song called Couldn't Find
Philip18 said 1806 days ago (May 19th, 2012)
Setup
Thanks for the comment, Richard. This was done in two parts - first my bit, then Peter took over. My part was the chords and the left channel guitar. I think it was the Ibanez AS200 for the lead. Software was Garageband. Peter is on the right, using his G&L ASAT (the telecaster sound). He used Ozone 5 as well as Garageband to finish it off. No guitar amps used, I use a Line 6 UX2 to plug the guitar in to the computer, then a fairly basic tone with some reverb and echo to round it out. Peter uses a Presonus Audiobox.
