Description
Here's a rare thing: Swift's Detestable Fidlers and Singers actually doing a piece together (and the Singers are more Detestable than the Fidlers, let me tell you!)

The tune "Judea" was published in 1778 by the early American composer William Billings. (I can imagine George Washington singing this over Christmastide at Mount Vernon with a house full of family and friends.) However, the lyrics are from England and are roughly 100 years older. Given this time-frame (which is what I would call the "high ECD period",) I decided to give this tune the full 'Fidlers' dance-band treatment and throw in a few vocal lines because I really appreciate the words of this song, as well. (I have little talent at singing, so please bear with my voice and enjoy the lyrics.) :)

All parts sung, played or sequenced by me.

What's Real:
My voice (of course!) rocking a full two octaves from F to f'
Susato Wide-Bore soprano recorder
Mollenhauer "Adri's Dream" alto recorder
Aulos 511B tenor recorder
Aulos 533 bass recorder
Violin
Viola
Tambourine

What's Sampled/Sequenced:
Sackbut (ancestor of the trombone)
Harpsichord
Finger cymbals

Enjoy!!

Lyrics
A virgin unspotted, the prophet foretold,
Should bring forth a Savior, which now we behold,
To be our Redeemer from death, hell, and sin,
Which Adam’s transgression involvèd us in.

Chorus
Then let us be merry, put sorrow away:
Our Savior, Christ Jesus was born on this day!

In Bethlehem city in Jewry it was
That Joseph and Mary together did pass.
And for to be taxèd when thither they came,
Since Caesar Augustus commanded the same.

Chorus

But Mary's full time, as we find, being done,
She brought forth the Christ who would save all His own.
The inn being full for this heavenly guest,
No place there was found where to lay Him to rest.

Chorus
