Description
It's time for a bit of rock'n'roll.
Another in the Queen Caroline cycle http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1008252
This is the song of the guy who wants to be relocated. Dagenham is in the east (red on the map) and Hammersmith (home to the QC estate, 1 on the map) is in the west (sort of) and Romford is near Dagenham.
Guitar, bass and drums that, for once, I could have done on an 8 track.
Once Upon a Time in the East © Dick Langford 2012
Well we left our home in Dagenham and travelled way out west
I don't know why my parents moved I guess they thought it was for the best
I lost my room, I left my school and I missed all my friends
I said, that if I get the chance I'd move back east again
My Dad he gave my dog away as we moved into a flat
I cried myself to sleep at night and I can't forgive him that
My parents passed a while back and left me on my own
I might have been here 30 years still doesn't feel like home
What a school they sent me to, I hated it and how
I hated all the teachers there and that lollipop lady cow
She'd hit me with that lollipop if I didn't move along
I've still got the scars today and I'm glad to see her gone
I go to Romford most weekends and meet up with old mates
they ask me when I'm going back and I say I've got to wait
I've got no job, I'm on the dole, and the social pays the rent
I haven't told the council yet my mum and dad are dead
A Tory bloke come round last night and said that I should know
They'd pay for me to move away and did I want to go?
So goodbye to these old cold rooms, I'm glad to see the back of 'em
It's time for me to celebrate I'm going back to Dagenham

Moving can be a drag. Good to hear your hero has made it back where he belongs. Enjoyed very much!!
