Description

Because, Because – So, I wanted to change things up a bit, get back to a style of music that I grew up listening to and emulating as a bassist; R & B. As we all know, groove is king, so I wanted to create something warm, smooth and simple….. uplifting, you know?....Sounds simple enough?!!....well, this song has become my nemesis…driven me NUTZ! It just wasn’t happening so I got some friends involved.....I reached out to Natalie and asked her to take a listen and much to my delight she agreed to work up lyrics and a beautiful vocal track. Nat has such a top shelf voice and always delivers great performances, just like this one. I also asked my friend Sigmund to offer up some feedback and we began sharing ideas back and forth. He had some great ideas for the track that really helped move it in the direction that I was visualizing. As a bonus, he added some really nice rhythm guitar work as well as additional percussion….oh yeah, and that solo thingy at the end ☺….wow. This also features the stellar sax man himself, Awigze…..what a soulful solo! But what else would you expect from my fellow Texan? Thanks to all these guys for their contributions, and for keeping me on that ledge ☺…and thanks to you for listening.

It's about time some one step up to the plate of r&b loving the vibe Hey Man! you have a hit right here I can here that on the radio, however the mix is well balance and I love the Rhodes and how they are in the mix and when the sax come in it gives it that sassyness in the mix and the vocals are sitting in the pocket and the lead guitar is in the background just right doing its thing you have a hot one my friend thanks for the ride

As I was trying .....

More than a collab
you actually sound like a band who worked longtime together. Which is kind of true too, as I know you guys worked together a lot. I think this also, makes it very attractive. 4 people, real talents on their own, and getting along so well together, that the end result of what they produce musically is such a delight to listen.

I also think, in terms of instrumentation, feel and the production, those collabs sound very consistant, which I like very much too, you kind of created your "common sound". This is more than the magic of collabs IMHO, it's absolutely beautiful.

This is impressive , Chris. Everything works, but Natalie's vocal - so warm, out front and full of emotion - is the highlight. Nice, Nice! Geez, Natalie - just oozes with emotion. WOW. The "mmm's" remind me of Kate Bush's "The Sensual World". Outstanding vocals. All around fantastic tune - downloaded after about 10 seconds. Chris, of course, stellar bass - and the drums kill me. How are you getting that great snare? Beautiful sax solo and the way Sig sort of mimics Natalie's line toward the end is awesome. oh yeah.....oh yeah i really love this. more bass please. didn't like the distorted electric guitar sound at 0.44......thought it went against the groove. is that you sig...sorry man. the section after is immense. incredible production.....who produced this....ah it was sig...incredible sound sig.....oh wait... that guitar is back! i would have had some brass in there instead. the little bits of percussion and tsst tsst here and there are fantastic. the eighties synth is interesting....it totally takes you away from the R&B sound.....and then suddenly andy's in.....and we're back into the groove....and what a groove he cooks up. andy, that is excellent saxwork. natalie.....i'm leaving you 'til last....because being as accomplished as you are there's little to say . you sound like the real deal. i can't believe you haven't been found yet.

First off, thanks for taking time to critique, you are always insightful in your comments. This song had elements of several different styles over an R & B groove...Nats vocals really set the mood nicely and the guitar and synth tones, while a bit "out of the box" for R & B, seem to fit to me, in their own way. Is it a true R & B song? nah, but R & B of the 70, 80's is much different than R & B of today...maybe this leans more to R B/Pop...I don't know, but nevertheless I was very proud of how everyone performed. Thanks again my friend for the constructive listen.

excellent stuff Chris. I've been missing Natalie's vocals and it's nice to get another hit! Great RnB stuff overall but I think the killer ingredient is Andy's sax which just gives it that added edge and knocks it above the "yeah, pretty good stuff" and into the "wish I'd done this" territory. Just the right combo
This one fires on all eight. Awesome groove and performance from all of you!! Sometimes all it takes is the right energy at the beginning and that energy feeds the groove for everyone else. Awesome job everyone I almost missed it as it was on page 5. I am so glad I decided to check one more page before heading out. Being a guitar player I would've liked that the guitar a touch more present in the mix it just seemed like it was only a little but still underneath the rhythm section. Probably where it should be with a killer R&B tune like this.

I've not been around MJ's a whole lot the past couple of weeks and I missed this fabulous tune. Love the R&B flavor ... this is one fine groove. All the parts are so well played ... the synth threw me off at first but on a second listen It was ok ... I think I just didn't expect it. The bass track is right in the funky pocket! Pro vocals and some great guitar and sax chops along with such a tight mix makes this tune one of my MJ faves!

Wow!!!!
Ny absolutely nails this! The first word knocked me over completely - then it just got better and better. Great music too - congratulations to all. Excellent rhythm section stuff Chris (natch!). I love the way this ebbs and flows with the variations on the kit, bass and guitar. Andy is just SMOOTH, and Sigi rips things up nicely.
I am really enjoying this - how RnB should sound (and a very fine example of the genre imho.

Smooth
like a Steely Dan song. Loving Strangedreams vox on this. Really like the subtle cracking in here voice that the mic picks up. Great bass and drums pulsing things along. Restrained soundbed is tasty. Something I have a hard time with, (as all my stuff seems very thrashy, in comparision). Andy's sax solo is good and perhaps the most focused and effective that I have heard from him. Fits into the song well. Also like how the gutiar solo wraps things up in the end. Good stuff. Downloaded!

has a wonderful groove and arrangement.
Natalie's vocals are always superb and sounding really great here. A pro production and a wonderful line up of MJ musicians.
Andy's sax is a real treat as is your bass playing Chris, holds it all together really well to make that great rhythm.
Sig always plays great guitar with a wonderful tone.
Very much enjoyed and thanks for the download.
