Description
"Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present." - Bil Keane
Harold left this quote as a comment on one of my recent posts and I keep thinking about it ...
I recorded my godin electric/acoustic and now in retrospect I wish I had used a hollow body acoustic for a more rich and warm sound. I was determined to use this godin. I put on new strings., plugged it in and made this tune. The frets are buzzing and well ... it's time to let it go.

Lyrics

The cat is on the chair
And I watch him as he stares
The sky is changing fast
I see the boats sail past

And the winter's closing in
I can feel the changes from within

Tomorrow is the future
And yesterday the past
Today is a gift
Got to make it last

And I sit here warm
beside the fire
And the wind
It sounds like a choir

Hey today is a special day
And the air is sweet with life

And the cat jumps off the chair
I can smell the smoke in the air
And my soul is free

Great rolling feel to this. Uplifting lyrics (will you post those?). I like the guitar sound - the picking, the harmonics, the flourishes and the solo that comes in the middle of the song. Good drums, too - although that crazy snare drummer near the end might need to be spoken to :-) ! Thanks for the download, Stan! Cheers. Philip.

Warmth and subtlety...
Glad you just let it go, Stan, for our sake... The tone you are getting out of the Godin is just fine to my ears - plenty of warmth and subtlety. Really liked the mood you established on this and the way the music washes over the stereo stage. My kind of music for sure. Thanks for the D/L. Take care, Peter.

what a beautiful song
I'm not a guitarist and don't know the difference between a Godin or anything else, but I can tell you that the sound you have here is rich and warm to my ears! Gorgeous, in fact, and coming in waves that just wash right over me. The lyrics and vocals are just as beautiful. The whole thing is wrapping me in a big, warm hug. And I think this is so far beyond my area of any expertise that I'll just shut up now and enjoy the listen. Thank you for the download of this very special song.

I wouldn't let it go at all. I'm always one to place a mic in front of a true acoustic rather than plug in an electric/acoustic. The pickup always strikes me as chirpy and brittle sounding. But here you have an interesting almost sitar meets guitar sound. Your legato lines and use of vibrato just makes the sound that much more exotic. You got something there Stan. I'd continue to explore it.

The tune is beautiful and the production stellar. Downloaded!

Awesomeness in widescreen. A real open feel to this and plenty of breathing room. I'm kinda surprised you're as critical of it as you've said; then again, once we get an idea in our head of how a song should sound if it doesn't meet that it can be frustrating. Your bad days are better than everyone else's good days! And you can always revisit it again for a more "unplugged" feel if's really bugging you. And to show my level of maturty, I thought that Bill Keane quote was from "Kung-Fu Panda"! Excellent fingerwork Mr G. Really enjoyed!

Well, buzz or not, it sounds fantastic. Beautiful ... yeah, rolling ... tune. A summer drive along winding roads through green hills. Are you doing the vocal harmonies? One of my faves by you. Unfortunately, I'm one of those guys who always thinks about the future, but at least for these 7 minutes, the present was just the thing. Thanks.

Splendid!
I really like the sound of the Godin. It might have worked with straight acoustic but I think this is excellent and would leave.

Splendid playing. reminds me of Leo Kottke.

Lovely vocal delivery.

A fine song all round!

Cheers

your music is depressing - you're so accomplished in all areas.
this song is far from complex but you sell it all the way with those little harmonic hits and that really easy vocal delivery. you could sing the weather forecast and captivate.

the string pulls and fret percussion are spot on

the falsetto note at 4.30 is sublime.

deep bows of admiration and soft green envy :)

Stop everything and download!!! This is absolutely phenomenal. This totally reminds me of a guitarist who used to play quite a bit around the Flagstaff, AZ area in the late 90s. His name was Joe Meyers, and I played his CD until it wouldn't play anymore. I just loved it, and your overall sound is very reminiscent of it. What beautiful lyrics, too.

The Godin...
...superb choice. I love the feel of this track and your excellent playing. There's a dreamy quality to all it all that is very peaceful and engaging, just like the perspective of your lyrics. Carpe diem, indeed. You have created a sweet sweet song (oh, I like those vocal slides about 2:00) that just calms and, as your last line says, sets the soul free. This is just beautiful and I am glad I heard it this evening. More please!
