Lyrics:
I met a homeless man in the Strand,
I met a woman with a flat that was open plan..
I met a real nice guy who got me high,
I met someone else who'd learnt to fly.
I heard the Chinese talk - didn't know what they meant.
I've written love letters that I've never sent.
Seen people on the street that live in a tent.
But I never met anyone who voted for the government.

I've had my hopes raised high by pie in the sky,
I've watched the telly for years and I don't know why.
I've watched Brighton play and score away,
I try to smoke at least 10 spliffs every day.
I heard the Chinese talk didn't know what they meant.
I've written love letters that I've never sent.
Seen people on the street that live in a tent -
But I never met anyone who voted for the government.

Well you've made your bed, now it's time to lie.
Cast your vote - watch society die.
You see the wounded and you just walk on by.
But have you got enough cash for all the things you want to buy?

I've seen the unemployed kicked in the eye,
Seen the pits closed down but I don't know why.
I've seen the jealousy and all the hate,
For the legacy of 1948.
I heard the rumours, never knew what they meant,
If freedom of choice is heaven sent,
I think that means that God is bent,
But I bet he wouldn't vote for any government.

Well you've made your bed, now it's time to lie.
Cast your vote - watch society die.
You see the wounded and you just walk on by.
But have you got enough cash for all the things you want to buy?

Love that jangly guitar &mdash 02/15/05 - 07:12:04 PM
What a cool song... familiar but I can't put my finger on
why. Love the "never met anyone that voted for the
government" line and the way it's delivered. Downloading
this one!

Great Hook &mdash 02/15/05 - 07:39:18 PM
This is a very complete song! Nice catchy melodies and
hook. A little long and overstated (maybe not), but I dig it!
I would've liked to hear a "written" ending rather than a
fade out. High marks!

Thanks for that.. &mdash 02/15/05 - 08:59:02 PM
I really appreciate your comments. I've had this song in
my back pocket for nearly a decade and GarageBand has
given me the opportunity to polish up a ropey old 4 track
Tascam Demo.
Must thank my best buddy Mike for the original drum
programming on this - which I had to copy beat for beat
from the 4 track cassette which was rotting in the attic.
Sadly for me he's now in Perth, Western Australia so we
don't get to jam to much anymore.

This song has a great feel. I'd love to see you post the full
lyrics. I like to read along so I don't miss anything. Well
done!

I love this song &mdash 02/16/05 - 11:29:03 AM
Great lyrics and music and arrangement. I think it could
use some mastering, but the basic production is good.
Would love to help. I'm downloading this.

never enough &mdash 02/21/05 - 01:05:17 PM
really good. wonderful alternative pop with just the right mix of weird and retro. love the circus feel, adding to the irony.

Once again, thanks for the kind words. I'm particularly proud of this song and I'm genuinely touched that others like it.
I think I'm getting to the point now where I want to try to improve on mixing and production.
I do worry that my desire to keep writing new material is leading me to rush the mixing.
Thanks for inspiring me.
