Description
So here's a little number we tossed off recently. Another breakup song from the masters of attraction with no plan for retention, Dynamite Van Pipe. We've been busy with our individual lives, keeping British streets free of bad tracksuits and east coast pastures artificially inseminated. As usual, Paddy sent me the instrumental and I threw a melody at it. Apparently, when recording vocals in the basement, you're supposed to turn off the dryer. I thought the sound of my jeans buttons clanking around in the background was kind of punk, Paddy disagreed. He's old and uncool. So I redid the vocals and sent it back. Then there was a moment with Bobby D and a canoe paddle, or maybe that was a metaphor, and then voila! french!

Well it was that time of year again, my new CD of songs had been recorded, mastered and pressed and I was at a loose end. So I trotted out this little guitar ditty, intending to keep it for myself and sent it to Craig, who liked it enough to grace it with some wonderful DVP lyrics in a Tempie-stylee. Dryers aside, the vocal tracks were magnificent in their quality and timbre, requiring little in the way of compression or EQ. The Dorseynator threw a spanner in the works, but it was a well timed and ultimately excellent spanner which had the effect of making something I thought was good, even better. As with all DVP, play loud. If the neighbours aint knocking it aint loud enough.

Lyrics
that pile of laundry
there's none of yours in it
i can't pull your jeans from the dryer
and imagine you in them
and when I get in the car
i won't have to adjust the seat anymore
oh ring ring ring
yeah the damned old phone
it aint ever gonna ring again is it?
the loneliest thing in the world
is a chest of drawers
with no gal around
to borrow your stuff anymore
i stare hard at the floor
i can see where you walked on it
i stare hard at the wall
i can see your shadow on it
i don't have to watch out for that cat anymore
when I open the door
chorus
there's none of yours in it
i can't pull your jeans from the dryer
and imagine you in them
and when I get in the car
i won't have to adjust the seat anymore
oh ring ring ring
yeah the damned old phone
it aint ever gonna ring again is it?
the loneliest thing in the world
is a chest of drawers
with no gal around
to borrow your stuff anymore
i stare hard at the floor
i can see where you walked on it
i stare hard at the wall
i can see your shadow on it
i don't have to watch out for that cat anymore
when I open the door
