amazing what a little organization can do to randomness
and make it into something cool. (that, and a good ear
from the arranger.) nice inventive result.

I was back in the mid seventies... was it orange sunshine?

i like that this one has a bit more structure to it. in my
mind, it's a 'song'. then again, maybe it's just my head
trying to wrap itself around the sounds. i hear repeating
elements that can be construed as a chorus, other similar
parts that are the verses, & for the bridge.. well, just take
your pick. the great thing about this kind of stuff is it
changes the more you listen to it-you start to understand
& normalize it, just like any other song

I really had to listen to everything thing that was going on
here. Very interesting! You have great imagination and
creativity. Very cool sounds here... really grooved on the
drum and bass assault near the end.

Nice idea. Closest I came to this was my tune, Nuclear Power Plant, in which I took quick samples from a bunch of different commercial songs and forced them into a new tune.
I think I like yours better. The randomness really adds to the feel.

Yeah, the Joni Mitchell was unmistakable (Free Man in
Paris?) There's a big Moody Blues mellotron chord for an
instant too.

Some parts work pretty well, others (the big drum part in
the middle) don't.

The novelty wore off pretty early.

All in all pretty fatigueing listen.

Free Man in Paris is correct... I had to make sure... I love Joni Mitchell,
just haven't listened to Court and Spark much yet. Blue is my personal
favorite JM album.

my tune Aikafen, I made reference to Montreal based
Akufen and the album "My Way". Now how do I say this
without implying that this is not original...cuz I think this
is great! It reminded me so much of his stuff. Go seek
out the tune "Deck The House." (You can sample it at
amazon.com, but not iTunes). You'll see that it's on a
similar line, but a little more linear. And then he throws in
that thumpin' bass.

This tune is moody and groovy and fun fun fun. There are
alot of textures and layers and each section has its own
character. I really liked it. The big question here is: Can
this composing technique be used again but still get
unique results? I'm guessing that with your masterful
mouse-strokes its possible.

I finally had a change to check out Akufen...I may have to look into
getting this album...it sounds great! Actually, I heard this idea in other
tunes by Daft Punk and Max Tundra as well, so those were influences.
It's true, ideas like this are not completely original (not many ideas are
now days), but since they have not been explored too often, they still
intrigue me.

The song started playing. "Ohmigawd," I exclaimed to Self,
"It sounds like someone flipping quickly over a radio dial!"

Then I read your description how you created this piece
and it makes perfect sense. What a great
compositional concept!

I liked the way you built the intensity throughout this
piece. It gave it a good "shape" and direction. The
excellent pacing added a sort of structure when it was
needed; otherwise the random sounds might have been a
bit too chaotic.

I'd like to hear more pieces composed with this general
idea -- perhaps vary the hip-hop aspects with more long,
drawn-out chords and phrases. That would be very
interesting!

This kind of music will undoubtedly be misunderstood
and perhaps given some low scores as a result, but of
course that doesn't MATTER; what's truly important in
"stretching-boundaries" music are the COMMENTS.

Hearing innovative stuff like this always stimulates me,
making me want to BREAK OUT of my classically trained
rut and go all loose and crazy with my music, but I
seriously doubt that anyone would like the results, and
their suspicions that I'm already a deranged musician
would be confirmed.

got me interested in your stuff in the first place . . .
and like _ said . . . this also resembles a song . . .
in a maths/structure kind of way . . .
so i can dig it easier than your freeform stuff . . .

But very good! I'm not sure what sort of music I'd class this as, but there is certaintly a lot going on. It's very hectic, and not really to my taste, but for just mixing a whole load of songs together, it's come out really well! So you added the drums etc afterwards - yeah, I think i works! I like parts of it better than others, though.
