Description
This song was a lot of fun in the making. i sent the track to chris who put the coolest bass on and offered to mix. he worked so hard and did a fantastic job.....and came up with the really cool reprise. scott turned out the perfect drum track in seconds and likewise john's roving synth tracks. anne came in on backing vocals (love our email exchanges anne).... and after numerous (endless?) tweaks (sorry chris - lol) this was the result.
The guy in the photo is David Kato, a Ugandan political activist who was killed by his government for being gay. There is a bill going through the Ugandan parliament at the moment which will make consensual sex between same gender adults punishable by death. the bill was drawn up by a guy called David Bahati. Bahati is a member of the C Street Fellowship in Washington DC, a conservative christian outfit that exports homophobia to anyone who will have it. Wow Julian, this is pretty heavy stuff ... subject matter. Vocally different then I'm use to from what I've heard. Quite strong against the smooth lightness of the music. You are doing some lovely delicate guitar work. I love what happens at around 3:15 with the change of feel and rhythm and the ethereal key noodling and Anne's voice. Oh man that's very cool the stop at the end and you come back with that short groove with Anne singing and Chris gets funky on bass. You could have made another song just with that groove. Fantastic airy mix with everything delicately placed in the right spots. Excellent tune and performance!
