Description
i grew up in the kind of small american town where everyone is known by their ethnicity. in a matter of fact way. so this is how we categorized girls. german girls (dutch included), polish girls (all eastern european countries included), italian girls, the occasional (and much sought after) swedish girl, normally moved in from Minnesota or Wisconsin thanks to her dad's job transfer or something like that, irish girls (red heads!) and last but not least the omnipresent welsh girls. omnipresent because welsh ancestry made up most of the town. 'gentlemen from wales who fled into the hills rather than be enslaved by william of normandy'. that's the beginning of my family history. somewhere in the hills they lost the 'gentlemen' and became instead a scrappy, permanently suspicious people with a wry love of living and an affinity with the hills. so when they migrated here they roosted in the mountains. and their great and great, great grandchildren were us. but back to welsh girls. i've never been to wales, but if william trevor is any authority then the girls there are pretty much the girls here. scrawny, down at heel, reluctant to smile (so that when they do it's like a magical, natural event, like catching a glimpse of a shooting star)...awe inspiringly bad judgement in men and relationships...but such pretty faces, sad faces, the kind of sad that is beautiful because it's like a mirror of the human condition and you see yourself in it and you feel so wonderfully sorry for yourself as you look at them that you love them for it. and eyes like trout pools. other than the exception of 3 weeks dating the daughter of an indian doctor who moved into town and seemed so wildly exotic he might as well have ridden an elephant to work, other than her, i learned about the birds and bees from the welsh girls.
Musically, these days I'm always thinking of josh rouse somewhere in the back of my mind, i'm such a huge fan and never far from one of his songs on a playlist, and of course the swedish pop I like so much and then right in there with it the alt country/folk that fills most of my listening time like blue mountain, and to round it off i've been on a 70's country rock kick (reminds me so much of being a kid), ozark mountain daredevils, firefall, etc. So this has a little of all that in it.

Lyrics
used to hang out at the pool
behind the trailer park
brown our bodies in the sun
passing the day into dark
walk back down to your mom's place
gravel lane hand in hand
sit on the curb with a boom box
make out listening to the band
my skinny ass
raccoon eyed
step dad tough
bottle dyed
welsh girl
raid you mom's party liquor
you taste like chapstick and johnny walker
you and me we weren't great talkers
but we got by with each other
drinking on the bed in your bedroom
smurfette and joe cool
didn't have a play but playing the fool
bluffing through a nothing hand
my skinny ass
raccoon eyed
step dad tough
bottle died
welsh girl

Sounds great.
Interesting sounds here and there with hard panning. That really keeps things interesting. Cool effect.
