Description

This song was originally conceived last summer. I came up with the musical concept, gave it to Nat, who then put these gorgeous lyrics in, and made it a song. It sat for awhile while we worked on other projects, but last month I felt like dusting it off and getting it finished up. I am really glad I did.

I asked Chris (rok41) to add the bass, and he did a phenomenal job - as always, I might add. Natalie, well, her vocal performance is simply fantastic - I think maybe one of her best yet (and I say that every time I work with her).

But you be the judge. Have a listen, and let us know what you think. On behalf of Chris and Nat, we hope you enjoy "Everything Changes".

Expect nothing less
Had to rush over when I saw this band was back at it. Lush and lovely, three pieces that fit so perfectly together - may you continue to spin hits.

Sounds like Nat was channelling some mid-90s Sarah McLachlan and it suits the song - the delivery was spot on. I even found that the trill on the first note of the first "everything changes" of each chorus grew on me. The vocal is nicely nestled in a very rich mix. The round bassy synth pads had me searching for Chris a little, but then a signature move (like the turnaround in the second verse and the slap/pop run in the second and third choruses) reminds me that one of the best bass players I've shared a sonic space with is on the track. Of course, the one thing I was looking for the whole time was finally delivered when Sig picked up his guitar and slid into the groove that had been set up. Does anybody play a better solo?

This is top notch, hard to imagine it being any better.

The intro signals that something good is on the way and Nat's fantastic vocals don't disappoint. Chris' bass is an integral component of the creative soundscape that underpins the song. Sig, your signature guitar work just takes the song to a higher level. The arrangement and mix is wonderfully balanced and natural. An awesome collaboration. Thanks, Peter.

but they also say never change a winning team. You did another wonder. I am a long time fun of your music Sig, and of your guitar technique. Natalie did fantastic, I love all her performances. And Chris, makes me listen to a song several times and listening to his bass lines is a pleasure by itself. Very deep, rich sound, melodic music beautifully performed. In minutes' time I'm leaving out of town and I'm so happy I came across this before I leave. The journey starts already well :-)

there's so many elements to this, all of them perfect in their conception and execution, but as a pop tune i'm finding it difficult to connect to any instant melody hook. it's too busy with its indiscriminate stops and sparkly bits.....i kept waiting for the beat to kick in and hook me back in.....so it was a bit stop-start for me.
i know you're aspiring professionalistas, and what you produce is definitely deserving of all that success.....but i feel this one needs less intricacy and more bone. more boner!

It's not really rock, not downtempo; mostly I thought pop is what fit the best, but I understand your point - heck, I think we should have a new genre classification - we can call it "melting pot"

OK well after listening a zillion times, and playing this for my family let me say, I STILL LOVE IT! These lyrics are sensational and Natalie delivers even more awesomely than usual, if that's possible - I see why Mike references Sarah McLachlan. Chris's bass truly shines in this mix and Shredman .... sigh ... you are blowing my mind. the "everything else" is um ... a LOT! You are so masterful in your guitar playing and soloing. There are so many great moments in here - just listened to 1:47 again - what a fabulous transition - this song is full of them. Congratulations to each of you - this goes straight to the motorcycle trip playlist!

I love that you do that, Karen - you listen, comment, then listen a whole bunch more, and THEN you come back and really give it to me! I could not agree more about Nat's performance here - it is truly inspired. I can not imagine playing a song anymore without Chris's awesome groove holding down the pocket. I don't know if he realizes it, but he's stuck with me!

	Everything Changes Tight and tasty. I like the transition to the first chorus especially. The effected sound there really helps to "hit the listener over the head" cueing us all that the big chorus is starting now, and then the vocal delivers over "Bite my tongue". Always a treat to hear from you guys. Your level of musicianship, performance and production is always inspiring to me. I wish there were a section on macjams for instruction on how to teach production and mixing. You guys would be perfect to teach it. It would benefit the community and other artist that our learning or wanting to improve.

Lol I don't how know good a teacher I'd be - but I certainly appreciate the compliment! In fact I think macjams does have some help in the forums, as well as individuals who are available for detailed critiques, etc. I have, from time to time, sought out feedback or critiques from various macjammers in whose opinion I trust or value. And that's what I would recommend to anyone looking to improve here - seek the help from the ones you look up to - we all have them. And everyone here is pretty accommodating.

Self-Fulfilled Prophecy
The Song title encapsulates the musical journey inside... so many changes in style, textures, etc. While some may find fault with this approach, I do not. At least not in this case. It is woven together in a very pleasing manner.

Musical composition is both art and science, but oftentimes it is more Alchemy than anything else. The soundscape here is reminiscent of some great tunes from the '70s and '80s and yet sounds fresh in this arrangement.

Natalie's vocals are lovely and spot on, full of emotional conviction and vulnerability. The guitar and bass work punctuate the performance when appropriate, without being obtrusive.

All in all, a very professional production. ;)

Easily the most pro-sounding MJ "band" at the moment (by a long shot). Nat's vocals/writing are of such high quality - very impressive. Sig and Chris combine to do an amazing job on the backing track. Love the bass Chris!
Production is also pro standard.
This is an absolutely brilliant bit of work on all fronts - so when's the world tour starting?

Great song. You guys are amazing. My favorite vocal is when Natalie is loud and not so hushed and whispered. I mean I absolutely love her voice through out I just love it when she belts it out there! Bravo!! My first comment in many many moons! Well, except to the G's recent...but dat don't count!

	nice Synth start really washes over you with it's rich sound. Then your drowning in Natalies voice. Super-glued together with your cool percussion and rock41's pro bass work. Another top drawer song guys. Trying to comment as this unfolds is like trying to capture a shower of diamonds. You could take any part of this - the vocal, synths, drums, bass, mix - and hold it up as a master class example of how to do it right. It's rare though to have all of these elements come together in the same piece.

I'm picturing in my mind a scrolling screen of information like the events monitor window in Logic only in this case representing great artistic choices. The screen never stops moving until the last notes die away.
