I had written a kind of Portishead soundbed and Sammydix ran with it and came up with a great vocal track/melody. we started chatting and I mentioned that it would make a great reggae song, and this is the end result of that idea. I really really really love reggae and dub in particular, and my voice is just not right for it. Sammy's on the other hand is wonderful for this and I hope he is into doing some more tracks.
I promised Sammy this track awhile back, but got busy in real life and didn't have much time to work on it. Sorry Sammy. I like the track, although I would have like to have done the bass track again. This is my second attempt at dub, it's not an easy genre to work in for me. Some might hear it and just think it sounds like a lot of echo, but the subtlety of real dub geniuses like Scientist, Lee Perry (pictured above), King Dubby, etc... can not be learned in an evening. Luckily I have a lifetime to learn it.
Thanks for getting on board Sammy. Here's the original version:

and his contemporaries are indeed geniuses, especially when you consider the equipment they worked with in Dub's early days. I'm so glad that someone here has acknowledged that! I'm a big fan of dub, as you know.
As for the music you've made, it's a really catchy number and the bass/drums provide a good rhythm section for the vocals. On my third listen now. If it was mine, I think I'd be tempted to make it longer, beef up the bass and snare [double the tracks maybe and apply some FX to one of them] put in more guitar/organ/percussion/FX and REALY dub it up! How about some regen on the vocals? Keep it simple, but layer in the reverb and echo more than you have. Let the DubStation do its thing on little snippets. [Wonderful piece of kit btw]
Having said that, it's a really nice tune as it is. I have taken a DL, thanks. Now to go and listen to the other version, which I've missed.
