Description
I had been looking forward to today for weeks. Who doesn’t love a day off with nothing to do? Those days seem so rare. So last evening I decide today would be perfect for a “one day song” challenge. But what should I write about? How about writing about that great feeling one gets from those rare free days. I wrote most of the lyrics while making dinner last night.
This morning I set about writing some music for my lyrics. I’m starting to think this songwriting thing is easier when I start with the lyrics first. With that said I was struggling to find a groove for this. I was about to give up when I grabbed my Little Martin travel guitar and slapped a capo on the 3rd fret. The Little Martin has a sound that invites one to strum chords with your thumb. It’s a bit like a ukulele but with six strings and in standard tuning one has a full range of chord voicings at their disposal.
I tracked guitars, bass and vocals rather quickly. I was struggling to come up with a solo. So I fell back on my old standby, which is to play slide. I tuned the Little Martin to open Eb (how’s that for a weird tuning?) and came up with a solo. A quick mix and then master with Audacity and there you have it. I did complete it in a day. I’ll leave it for you all to decide if it was time well spent.
Special thanks to Bob (five_extra_arms) Dorsey for keeping me supplied with all to realistic profile pics!

Lyrics
Waiting Here For You
words & music by alackbass
Slept in this morning,
Just a little, not too late
Drank my coffee rather slowly,
There's no hurry for me to wake
I've got no real agenda
No pressing things to do,
I'll just spend a lazy day,
Waiting here for you
No need to leave my castle,
Surrounded by all I need,
Maybe read a book then strum some chords,
Or just sit and watch TV,
I've got no list or deadlines,
My worries very few,
I'll spend a quiet day,
Just waiting here for you,
I may not be a rich man,
I'm luckier than most,
I could stay here doing nothing,
Or take a ride out to the coast,
Embrace life's simple pleasures,
While wanting not much at all
Don't need no one to visit,
I don't need no one to call,
The sun is slowly setting,
The western sky turns red,
There's many miles behind me,
I'm hoping many more ahead,
Today nothing got accomplished,
There wasn't much to do,
I spent my quiet day,
Just waiting here for you,
