Description
When you have a child (and care that you have a child), you tend to be more self aware. You look at the ways that you have failed, and the ways that you have succeeded, and you ask yourself why, so that you can teach your child to either avoid the failure or attain the success. One of the ways that I've been extraordinarily lucky is in marriage. And so I've been asking myself what the secret is, because I know what it is to crash and burn in marriage too, and I want my daughter to be able to find as good a relationship as her mother and I have, and to avoid the heartache of the other. So I was thinking about this off and on and I just happened to be watching cartoons with my daughter and I noticed how all the superheroes had that little extra something - a special bit of equipment, or friend, or whatever, that completed the superhero package, without which they'd still be super strong or super fast or whatever but that wouldn't be enough and I thought that's it, that's what makes our marriage what it is. We're both capable people, and had fine lives individually. But together, we're something else, we're better and more capable. Our professors used to joke in grad school that we were the wonder twins. And we kind of are. We're funnier together, we're more ambitious together, we're more creative together, our quality of life in general is better together than it is apart. We're a team, we're each that 'little something else' set sets the other over the top. Hence the song.
Musically, this is straight up 70's Hanna Barbera super hero Saturday morning cartoon. It's summer, the sun is shining, and Marine Boy is saving the day...

Lyrics
do you remember marine boy?
he had that oxy-gum
and a bulletproof suit
yeah, propellers in his boots
some things are fine by themselves
some things well, they need a little something else
you're my little something else
(you know you like yourself better with me)
do you remember the space ghost?
he had that magic ship
and an invisi-belt
yeah, a monkey for help
some things are fine by themselves
some things, well they need a little something else
i'm your little something else
(you know you like yourself better with me)
he had that oxy-gum
and a bulletproof suit
yeah, propellers in his boots
some things are fine by themselves
some things well, they need a little something else
you're my little something else

i'm your little something else
