The Laughing Song

Description
This soprano song is from Strauss's "Die Fledermaus" (The Bat) operetta.

I'm a mezzo-soprano so this was a bit of a stretch, and I had to lower some of the "so-high-only-dogs-can-hear-it" end trills so that they were more in my range!

The context of this song is that parlour maid Adele, dressed in the finery of a Lady in order to attend a prestigious ball, encounters her Master, who after flirting with her thinks he recognises her as his wife's maid. Adele does her best to dissuade him from such an absurd notion!

Backing track used with kind permission of Musical Creations.

My oh my ... can you ever sing. I love your voice ... I am no connoisseur of opera but you take me away from for a brief moment to somewhere else ...that note you hit near end ... wow. Thanks for the treat

Beautiful performance, Rosalind. What wonderful control you have over your voice as it glides through the melody and hits the notes with unerring accuracy. Love the tone, too - I like voices to have warmth in them and yours does (I think I prefer the mezzo range to the straight soprano, which I find can become too shrill for my tastes). Musical Creations have done a good job with the backing track - nice and rich. I like the artwork you've chosen too - sets the scene for this music perfectly. Thanks for the download!

A night at the opera
First up, I like the artwork. Suits the back story perfectly. You have such a pure, true voice, Rosalind, that you make songs like this sound easy to sing, when of course they are not. I enjoyed my trip to the opera. Thank you, Peter.

Quite a voice you have there.

Wonderful.
You always do such a beautiful job, Rosalind, and this song is particularly well performed. Your precision and excellent pitch make for a superb performance. This is just beautiful. Such a wonderful respite from rock 'n' roll and rap.
(I wonder how many folks recognize just how difficult it is to sing like you do. Just marvelous.)

Die Meisterin
It's rather amazing how you can hit a pitch (in fact all notes) when you're jumping such intervals and have it sound so light and coquettish. This is where the illusion of a performer with mastery makes it sound like anyone could do it when in fact it is quite the opposite. This is a lovely treatment of the song Rosalind. Herr Strauss would be well pleased with your performance I'm sure.

Doug

Takes me back
... to where I actually had most of my musical experiences in the past twenty years, the opera houses of Europe. I still find this kind of music so perfect and so difficult to achieve that I don't even compare it with all the other genres we all play around with here on MJ. A great listen. Thank you very much.
