i felt like making a song, but i had no music in my soul. so i clicked randomly with the pencil tool to form a 3 1/2 beat loop on the Steinway. the dog barks etc. comes from a nature sounds instrument. honest, those sounds are simply what came from the random loop. i continued and duplicated the loop a number of times and messed around with various instruments and effects. somewhere along the way, two other brief melodic lines came to mind to accompany the loop melody. i did a rough mix visually, and after listening a couple of times, tweaked the levels as needed

the first drum hit is thunder. for the ending i put in the entire sample from nature sounds, with compression and riding the gain to keep it rolling. i added a little flanging too

the final loon calls also came from the nature sounds instrument, with a cathedral sized AUMatrixReverb on it

last was the title "porcelain doll" - reflecting the idea that there is no music in its soul - it became the description after i thought of the acrostic i used instead

Dream
I've had dreams like that - although the barking dog turned out to be the dog next door that's barking a lot! It's sort of a "struggling-to-wake-up" piece of music, with some nightmarish elements. When the rhythm starts to kick in, it's as if there are two conflicting elements fighting each other for control.There's probably a creepy movie somewhere waiting for this to arrive as its soundtrack!

Dream Ending A Dream
Very much like a dream ... I agree with that fist drum hit ... I love the way you have combined the creepy with natural sounds like birds and dogs. Ooh ... treat's neat when that drum beat comes in ... isn't that funny how a doll can look scary depending on what context we see it. I hope I wake up soon. Excellent piece .... I'm awake .... I hear the peaceful loons ... or is it the start of another dream?
