Description
Been in severe lack of inspiration for a while now so I dug into the archives and found this lying about. Had a free hour or 2 this morning so thought I would record it and throw it out there. Simple 2 tracker just me and my guitar. Hope you enjoy

Lyrics
Minds Eye

Verse 1
Walk in the footsteps of my minds eye
Hearing laughter, watching you cry
Sleeping starlights, glow tonight
Earths coping, its a lie
Bridge
We all stay forever
We'll be together
Chorus
Knowing the score, stay here
Be with me cos we're here
Verse 2
Waiting without you, I see the light
Closing curtains, its such a fight
Brain numbing, its so fine
Never knowing why oh why

Verse 3
Travelling slowly, cannot drive
Born slippy, heavens dry
So sleepy, help me cry
Not forgotten, in your mind

Good song
Catchy riff kicks this off, Neil. Simple 2 trackers seem to be the way to go at the moment. Good thing. I like the song. Glad you delved into the archives. Hopefully posting this will get the creative juices flowing again. Take care, Peter.

Thankyou very much for stopping by. I wrote this a few years ago, hoping that going backwards may trigger some inspiration somewhere. Glad you enjoyed it, I had fun doing this!

Good to hear you back ... nice stripped down true to the heart song writing. I like the chordal riff and that minor mode. You have a unique voice ... enjoy the tone. Nice ending!
Enjoyed this very much Neil.

Well sod me ...
he's back....and about bloody time too.

Nice track ...stands up all by itself and at te same time could be developed further ...there are traces of REM about the guitar that stand out very nicely....it is sodding difficult these days to play anything without sounding like a bit of somebody else....good tune, good tune and vox....

Hopefully this will give me the rocket up the backside I need. Haven't really had this lack of inspiration for a long time, need to pull myself out of it, hope this helps.

Glad you like the tune, kinda get your meaning with the REM thing! Great band. Cheers for the listen

Nice sharp riff to start things off. I like the lyrics. Strong vocal. Could easily handle a bit more in the arrangement, but this stripped down version is enjoyable. Good one, Neil!

You know this kind of stripped down approach speaks to me. I like the tune a lot. Strong melody and equally strong lyrics. The chorus stands out nicely. Those chorus changes are particularly nice. I love your solid accompaniment. But it's your vocal that stands out.

better a 2 tracker than a notracker, lol :-)
I dig the song.
In the end it's always good to be able to bring a song just on your own, the man and his guitar.
The muse comes and goes, but the point is to keep on playing no matter how :-)
Enjoyed, Neil!

catchy one neil. just a guitar and vocal works well here, sure it could be a bigger production, but on the other hand i like hearing stripped down versions as well

Good work in progress
You've got some good bits in this song. The lyrics are thoughtful and heart-felt. I scored the track based on its current state. Stick with this one and develop it. Personally, I'd like to hear it with a full-band arrangement and some harmonies to punctuate parts of the chorus.

Nice song. I like the melody of the vocals and how it sits with the guitar. I can almost hear a band breaking in on the second verse. Has that REM feel to it. Thanks for sharing.

Simple is better.
Good choice on that score. I don't think the tune needs any more than just these two elements. I noticed that no one mentioned the lyrics, so I will (in the spirit of being constructive): I don't "get" them. Wish I did. And yet your vocal delivery is really peaceful and certain. I just don't understand the song.

Thanks so much for dropping in. I wrote this song many years ago and at the time I wrote lyrics which were open to interpretation. I think its about a guy who loses somebody and the feelings he has when that happened, but the lyrics could mean anything! Glad you kinda liked it though cheers

Development
It has the makings of a knockout tune. I like the stripped down beginning, but I could hear "the band" coming in right around the first chorus. The chord you hit at 4:14 is the winning chord to go out on. And don't downplay your voice. You have a unique sound, just right for this kind of thing -- blast it out, let it go, run with it.

nice
Yup, sometimes just the guitar and voice is enough. You put this one over well. I did think the guitar sound could have been a bit fuller.. maybe some more bass in the EQ or something?
However, this is a minor quibble. Overall a most enjoyable post.
I thought the lyrics were great... I like those ambiguous "open to interpretation" songs. thanks for posting it!

In a time when effects and tech seem to be ruling, this performance demonstrates that all of the "extras" are not needed. Just a real voice and a real guitar combined with your talent says it all. Well done!

folk ballad
significant lyrics are poetic in a symbolic
poetic sense . . . delivered words
become etched ...
also like the final wind-up on a philosophic note.
