symphony 101 -- 2nd bass
vic diesel -- bass piano and synths
this was a ditty I wrote in like 5 minutes just over a month ago, recorded in iphone and uploaded as I went out the door to work. completely spontaneous and unpolished. I thought it would be fun to get some awesome musicians to overlay parts on it, and turn it over to vic diesel to see if a sow's ear could be turned into a silk purse ; ) it had to have live drums since it wasn't played to a click track; I've always seen loob's "need drums look me up" sig line so I did and he said ok. he managed the rhythm magnificently. I knew vic holman was an awesome guitar player so I asked him for a lead part. he said yes and somehow came up with an astonishing la woman sound over the rude acoustic - even though my guitar was out of tune and off key (like a=433 or something!). symphony101, yves, added bass and horns and I made myself a rough mix and handed all the tracks (in a major disorganized fashion!) to vic diesel, encouraging him to work his magic brutally as he is wont to do, and giving him final cut privilege as well. somehow or another in the span of a couple of days he came up with this final version of my sow's ear song, and made it the silk purse you can hear today ; ) only problem remains my awful singing (don't lie and say I sing good, I have real life friends who are honest with me lol) -- other than that I am very very happy with this resulting masterpiece ; ) perhaps next time I'll get gaylen to sing instead of me lol ; ) apologies to perry farrell for unconsciously lifting kimberly austin, I had never heard that song in my life. anyway following blurbs are from participants, they are all great guys to work with and I am proud to have them as friends here on macjams!
vicdiesel: Eddie presented me with a vocal/guitar track that was recorded on an iPhone, and that had drums mixed into it. And if I felt like mixing/producing that. Well..... With the help of some fancy plugins I got some life into that track, and mixed it with Vic Holman's excellent electric guitars. I redid the bass and synth part, added a piano, and mixed a little of the original bass back into the track, suitably mutilated. I hope the total mix has an exciting, somewhat raw sound. This was fun to work on! Secret weapons used on this track: PSP NobleQ and PSP VintageWarmer.
vic holman: heck, i don't know....... i just played
freddy aka loob: Wow! Great job guys! Vic's additions are SWELL! All of a sudden I don't hear the intonation thing Ed! Huge difference! Very cool! You rock Eddie! :-)
yves aka symphony101: It's my second collab with Eddie, one of the most easy-going, and nicest guys around. It's a spontaneous, heartfelt performance, I loved it and it was great pleasure working on it. Eddie knew exactly what he needed as my input so working on the song was very easy. Then I found out that, added to Eddie, I was collabing with Vic Holman and VicDiesel. 2 other great reasons to totally enjoy this. Freddy is my virtual band mate, and it has been very cool to join him on this project. Once again, great work Eddie on this song and thank you for making me join this very nice team.

This is awesome! I love the instrumentation ... your acoustic comes across raw and real against the perfectly tuned accompaniment instruments and hey ... don't lie and say you're good ... what about Bob Dylan? Your vocals are great in this. Love that synth bit and and can you turn down a bit I can't hear my TV!!! Vic ... great guitar! Really enjoyed this very original tune.
Cheers
